I didn't realise just how important this guy was in the lead up to the election in 2016. He is a long time friend of Trump and owns the company that publishes that well know credible news source which is littered with quality journalism - The National Enquirer.
If you look back at the NE covers in the months leading up to the election, there are simply loads of scandalous headlines against Hilary. Bear in mind that this publication is heavily prominent at the checkouts of places like Walmart, so it's easy to see how this could have influenced a lot of people into how they voted.

Also, the NE paid Karen McDougal a large sum of money to Kill a story that Trump had an affair with her. That money appears to have been reimbursed by Trump, and the transaction is currently under scrutiny for campaign violation irregularities.
Well - Now this guy suddenly got immunity from prosecution in the Special Councel investigation. Very interesting.

I’m just wondering if the term “a smear campaign” is accurate when the accused is actually guilty?This is a big development as not only does he know what was going on but he has the paper trail to back it up. We currently know of one further finance violation but I suspect there is a whole lot more that will come out of this.

And don't kid yourself, this is all party lines. Name me the last Republican President or even major figure who didn't have a substantial hate campaign against them. Every candidate or President they've had since the rise of social media and the integration of it within to traditional media is painted not just as having bad ideas but also being corrupt, racist, simultaneously appealing only to dumb rednecks or rich people somehow, and basically are immoral or idiotic people.

The Beautiful Mind like connections that people drew between him and bin Laden or various corporate interests to suggest he was feathering his own nest. This obviously negates the whole thing that the President is nowhere near as powerful as people seem to believe. He's not exactly the Queen but the idea that Trump rules with some iron fist and the Party just are along for the ride is demonstrably false. Trump can't do anything outside the odd executive decision without the Party.
