There is an appeal to backing the winning side and Trump is not looking like a winner right now.
I think that once realisation starts to set in at the GOP that the game is up with Trump, we will start to see Republicans circling the wagons around Pence in order to try and shield him from any fall out from the impeachment enquiry.

I'm not sure how well insulated Pence is from all this; time will tell, but don't rule out Trump being removed from office, Pence being installed as POTUS and then issuing a pardon to Trump and Co.

Not all doom and gloom though because SDNY have a stack of subpoena's waiting for him once he's out of office.

Looks like Trump campaigning in Kentucky May be the reason for the turnout being 150% of the 2015 turnout.

Let’s hope for more of the same in 2020

If Trump goes down it will not be pretty. The idea that Pence would pardon him is not a given in my book - irrespective of any pardon Trump would spend the rest of his life in court. Trump could try to take Pence down with him but by that point what credibility would Trump have and what would be in it for Pence and the GOP to pardon him. With Nixon it made sense as 1, it was part of a deal where he resigned and 2, as he resigned he was off out of the picture quickly before a trial. I don't see Trump resigning and I don't see him going quietly. I just see a messy spiteful end and therefore why pardon him.

Very true. We'll have to see how it pans out as the impeachment enquiry gathers pace. There are more than a few Rep Senators who have gone all in on Trump, so the fallout is definitely going to be messy.

They won't even have to reach impeachment conclusion its already had its desired affect, this is a major blow for the Republicans losing Kentucky. The Republicans will have to remove Trump or risk losing the election heavily he is collateral damage right now.

What’s better is that Trump was campaigning there 24 hours before the election.

What this will do, is teach GOP lawmakers that hitching yourself so closely to Trump may mean that you lose your job next year.

But his help is the only reason it was close. My source is an orange fella from Florida (formerly NY) who said he was worth 8 pts.

I'd think Mitch would be quite alarmed by the presidential statement that the Republicans were 8 pts down!
