We did the same over here. The early to mid 2000s saw everyone's house value go up on paper and they remortgaged themselves up to the tits. And banks let them. What they should have said is ' so you want to buy your house again? Are you sure?'What has struck me is seeing on the news the number of people who drive up to food banks in brand new cars and top of the range SUVs. Hocked up to the eyeballs with loans they can't afford to repay just to keep up appearances and now they can't even afford to feed themselves or their families.
No wonder America is such a fucked up country.

I like it. People moan on about youngsters today never being able to afford to own their own home. Im not so sure. What they do is treat it like renting but with the ability to borrow against it to have a flash car/ holiday in Mexico/ new tits/ etc. Its like they dont want to own their own their home as it isnt the most important thing in their shallow social media driven lives. Daft. I paid my mortgage off very early. Means if heaven forbid I get binned off from work In secure. I don't think folk look at it that way anymorewhich is why instead I own my home outright and I currently drive a £1500 FIAT Punto
