It is very late, and I’ve already made my thoughts clear on the reputation laundering happening now and still come.

But this is more relevant to the discussion we were having about whether impeachment and removal was possible over the next few weeks. This could all be empty “off the record” posturing or a real sentiment shift.

Just sharing as possible indicator.
I hope it's the latter Seb.
Maybe I'm just a jaded old cynic, but the last four years have shown me a side of "democracy" that I didn't believe could exist in any first world country.

If Congress had the will, they could call a session to impeach tomorrow and convict the day after. The evidence is clear cut. Not sure if SCOTUS could or would block it.

Not a cynic, mate.

I am sad to say I have had many experiences with this sort of degradation of democracy (and slides in to full-on authoritarianism) elsewhere in my youth, so this is not really surprising to me. Hence why I have always been the doom monger on here. It has had it’s uses, though.

I think that anyone i know, who has an issue with it, is because it highlights 26 counties...as opposed to 32....therefore they prefer Ireland as its the whole island......but by and large, the only people who use the term Eire are English....and often in a condescending manner

(Im not suggest that was the intention with that post btw :-) )

"The 26 Counties of the Free State and Occupied Territories" doesnt quite roll off the tongue.....

Sorry for the segue...
Understood AWG.
When I see it written by anyone in here though I don’t jump to the conclusion that they are WUMing, whether they are or not.
It was used traditionally by English who refused to call it Ireland for the the reasons you state. However typically since 1937 when the new constitution was drafted and a president elected as head of state we stopped being a dominion of Britain and the act of 1948 declared us a Republic which was recognised in 1949.

Why would your average football fan in England know that or care.

If the name is used as a WUM my attitude is ... meh! Whatever amuses you!

However, we’re still in a USA thread, mods if you want to pull my educational ramblings to the Irish thread, go for it.

I have said many times in other posts (including the earlier one this morning that I was referencing here) that time is not the constraint, it is the collective political will to honour their oaths.

If they wanted, they could impeach and remove all in the same day.

And SCOTUS couldn’t block it, as this is a constitutional mechanism (and certainly not before the end of Trump’s term).

@AlexWilliamsGloves I am happy to leave them if we can just be sure to stay on topic moving forward (though, I do appreciate the discussion and perspective, aside from that).

The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!

His supporters are going to start getting locked up. Their will be trials and it will be very embarrassing for him when he is sited as the rationale and the verdict is sedition / treason / terrorism etc.

He is getting his retaliation punches in early as ever but it wont change the facts that will come out.
