You're right. I thought it a nice touch that whilst Trump could do whatever he wanted over the pond, our supreme court ruled that parliament was sovereign and the government didn't have carte blanche to do whatever they liked. Not that I believed Gina Miller's motives at all...

Well, their chief lawyer did do something and got fired for it!

Oh absolutely. But so could any of the pretend people in the shows.

My point is that people won't take that stuff seriously now. We all were led to believe that the US was a nation of checks and balances but in reality it's not. Trump has performed a coup-lite, installed his people, purged departments and seems happy to do everything by executive order.

It people aren't terrified by that then there is something wrong with them.

The Senate will push back on some of it though. It's only been 2 weeks, and it takes time for Congress to act, just like out Parliament.

It's the nasty stuff that goes unreported, like creating a register of crimes from illegal immigrants, that will need keeping an eye on.

She did something against one order, not the legality of all executive orders.

The others may be legally valid. She was still the top government lawyer, and was fired for doing what she believed her job to entail.

Trump can't do anything he wants, even if he thinks he can. Much of his orders still require funding to be authorised. Sooner or later, the Senate are going to get annoyed.

They probably are legally valid. That doesn't necessarily make them right though. I think the existence of executive orders, allowing one individual to dictate to the entire nation on every issue, is plain wrong.

I quite agree with that.
Given that, I might have misinterpreted the first one I replied to.
