One of the comments was most telling:
He was smart enough to get elected president and he is smart enough to know that on matters of governing he will NEVER be compared among the great presidents of the past. Yet, he can reign as the most consequential president of all time in becoming the most destructive person ever to hold public office in the U.S. It will solidify his singular place in history and make him the subject of perpetual discussion and reflection in decades to come. History books will devote pages to him. He will be credited with destroying, or nearly destroying, one of the major political parties. In his own sick mind, these are accomplishments to be revered. It is only the Constitution that prevents him from taking a place among a pantheon of despots. He would love that if he could.

He's not that strong. Bannon (and co) had a fanatical belief in the destruction of America's institutions and equality. Don, no. He is terribly isolated and looking to survive. He needs all the friends he can get to help him when the Russia Grand Jury gets to work. He does value his family (not the same thing as loving them), and I doubt he'd risk them becoming broke, or ending up in jail.
I imagine he is now more worried about being remembered for having the shortest presidency. Well, second shortest, William Henry Harrison died after 41 days.
Don's immediate target must be Zachary Taylor, who died 16 months into his presidency. You're halfway there Don!

Indeed, the country has a fair few "gun toting nutters," but they haven't felt quite so emboldened or empowered to walk the streets in their paramilitary garb, outgunning local law enforcement in many respects, and spreading their hate while conducting sunset marches with lit torches!Yep, and it never happened before Trump. Your country had plenty of gun toting nutters before he came to office, and they'll have them when he leaves. Trump hasn't invaded anywhere yet, so I suppose he needs that on his CV.
This is back country, hillbilly stuff gone mainstream, and when it comes to Charlottesville (you may or may not know the history of the city, or its current make up), it is a tad scary. For that to turn into armed Nazis surrounding a statue of a slave owner and Confederate (read: trying to protect slave ownership and take over the country in armed rebellion) General and one of them mowing down people in the streets, we are lucky it didn't 1) end up with deaths from the car on the order of Barcelona, and 2) with an armed gun battle on the streets of the city between Nazis and Nazi sympathizer and the Police/unarmed protesters.
Look at the lead picture below. These are NOT Police or Army or National Guard trying to keep order, these are simply an armed gang of "Joe Publics" who are "exercising their rights to free and open carry in Virginia," which is lawful! I shit you not! You can walk down the street, with an AR-15 (American AK-47 that shoots straight!) slung over one shoulder, a Glock on each hip, and in full para military "uniform" and it is perfectly legal. Get a permit, and the President will call the other guys the bad guys!!!

Appalling isn't even the word. Disgusting what is happening at present in America. It's terribly sad although I'm sure there are a couple of posters on here that will be rubbing one off to that video.

looking at videos of some of these protests. the police seem non existent. are they purposely not intervening so violence happens ?
Compared to the force that was put out against peaceful protesters at the Standing Rock DAPL demonstration they were none existent
I wish more people understood this but once Fox labels you as a socialist or communist it doesn't matter what the facts say. He lowered taxes for an overwhelming majority of Americans, was pro-business and increased military spending. How is that socialism?

I will say that compared to today's GOP that the Democrats are pretty far left of them. They're willing to overlook neo-nazi sympathizers in their midst to further their agenda. They're pro-pollution, anti-immigrant, anti-regulations of almost any kind against businesses, anti-gun control of any kind, and want to increase military spending even more.

I disagree, I think there's a very good chance he wins reelection. Once the democrats nominate somebody the Fox machine will bring up some minor issue or lie and blow it out of proportion so much that it'll be all the mainstream media talks about. Look at how they labeled John Kerry a coward for his service in Vietnam while getting a draft dodger elected. You just mention Sen. Elizabeth Warren to anybody and the first thing they say is "Fake Indian" or "Pocahontas".
The other problem is that the GOP has perfected the "They're all crooks and my vote doesn't matter anyway" message. People literally believe that there's no difference between a neo-nazi sympathizer and a person who wants to improve healthcare and increase wages for American workers. This tactic really hurts the Democrats who are usually younger and more prone to wanting to be rebellious or "cool" so they either don't vote or make some moronic moral stand and vote for a 3rd party candidate (imagine where we'd be if Ralph Nader wouldn't have run in 2000?). GOP voters come out in droves for big elections no matter what.
It basically comes down to the fact that Americans have become painfully stupid and instead of being ashamed of it they're actually proud of it. It's the cult of ignorance, people believe that their ignorance is as valid as someone else's intelligence. They each vote and one vote is worth exactly as much as the other. Also, the religious-right is pretty much standing by Dumb Donald which is a massive advantage in American politics.
