From what I have seen as of late (and perhaps I have missed more critical coverage), BBC News generally continues to cover Trump and co favourably, so it doesn’t surprise they aren’t calling the spokesman out for the insanity.

To be fair they did try, and a couple of times asked him to answer the questions they were asking. When Katty Kay tried to make her point or counter something he'd claimed on poll ratings, he just got louder and louder... He had his memorised spiel, and nothing was going to stop him saying it.

I suspect they have had enough of these motormouths that they view it as 5 minutes of purgatory to go through, and let anyone watching draw their own conclusions.

Happy to hear she pushed back, if in vain.

I have just seen some very “both sides” or indifferent articles about Trump and Republicans as of late, which to me are classed as favourable given we should be shouting to the heavens of his crimes and incompetence.

I reckon pence would go down the religion route,get the evan whats its on side,cant see he would have much else to offer,maybe ,as he was head of the covid taskforce,he would push back on the claims they fucked that up

I think with their looney fans and stopping people from postal voting then they might have enough

Joe and Kamala need to go hard on the message that trump is forcing people to risk their lives and go out to vote in winter during a pandemic,i know he has forced the CDC into saying people dont need a test even if they have been around someone positive which will give the impression there is less people around with it but if enough governors join Cuomo at new york in saying they wont stop testing then it might not have a huge effect

Yes, sometimes they do seem to be a three minute platform but I think it varies by show/host/time of day. Newsnight would contest, but a news programme will have limitations.

I think they're happier to engage with academics or general correspondents, or have one from each viewpoint, but there's probably no point with the ideological party spokesentities. I guess it's a bit of "where do I start with that lot, and I've only got a minute to do so".

Pence is absolutely there for the “fire, brimstone, and revelations” evangelicals and other various religious nutters, which is not a small portion of Trump’s base these days.

That NPR audio story I posted the other day gives a fairly good overview of why.

He also laughably helps with the “we need someone to temper Trump” delusionals.

Yeah, I can understand the live interview limitations.

It’s the latent reporting and/or analysis that shows indifference or favour that I cannot abide.

And false equivalence, so prevalent in what is regarded as “objective journalism”, is among the major death nails to truth.

Sometimes it does feel like there's something missing, I agree.

I think the magazine format doesn't help, whereas a long investigatory format can work through things more methodically.

When the person flatly refuses to engage, they're stuffed though - the RNC nutter was asked why Trump hadn't uttered Blake's name but was happy to talk of a dead policeman, his response was "how do you know he hasn't tonight? Have you seen the speech yet?"
Classic diversion.

She is tack sharp and not afraid of bullies. She absolutely destroyed Barr in his Senate confirmation hearing.

Everything is TV to him. He is just pandering to cameras, he must have looked at it 4 or 5 times and only then did he remember why he was being filmed. He thinks its still The Apprentice, he is acting. All he is doing is acting, and performing.
He will win the election again, because morons only know people acting rather than anyone being of substance and principle. They respond to people they have seen in films and on telly and read on twitter. Sad reflection of our times really

At times, I genuinely think he does *think* it is still The Apprentice... then he snaps back to lucidity and awareness of his surroundings and shows immense disappointment and anger.
