Don't buy the Guardian today

Good post. I have just read said paper and agree - the actual article isn't too bad but the front page is ridiculously slanted against Mancini. As you say it's one game FFS.

And to quote "For all the investment, revealed a week ago in City's 2010-11 accounts to be that unimaginable £800m from Mansour in under three years, Mancini has not negotiated their first ever Champions League group stages successfully."

Erm, last time I checked there was still one game to be played Mr Conn. Might have to send him a little reminder of this if we manage to get through.

In fairness,we are still a fair way behind Barca,in my opinion.
So is everybody else.
I get the Guardian - it's the only paper for muesli-knitting do-gooders like me.
To stop buying a paper just because they indirectly criticize my football club is a bit of an overreaction.
You buy it then, and take a look at the front page of the Sport, and I guarantee you wont think it money well spent

Compare the footballing analysis in there to the analysis from the Liverpool fan in Anfield Index.

I have already bought and read it,mate.
I don't agree with their conclusions regarding City, but that in itself is not sufficient reason to stop buying a newspaper.
How far do you want to take your boycott of all media that criticise us?
You would never watch Match Of The Day,or Sky Sports,or listen to Talkshite,or buy any daily paper whatsoever, because they all do it.
But by all means live in your media-free bubble,if it makes you happy.

Much as it galls me to agree (again) with my pinko neo-trotskyist/leninist/commie/collectivist/marxist/stalinist friend, to not buy a paper because you disagree with some of its output is an absurd notion.

I don't live in a media-free bubble. My media is TV, Internet, Wiki, and blogs like Anfield Index. The world is changing. The Guardian and the Times present the political views of the establishment even if fronted by Polly Toynbee. In short they have no redeeming feature.

Power of the press - there is no way to respond, except by winning the league and I suspect even then there will articles I, as a City fan, won't like.

Personally I don't buy the paper, in fact I don't buy any papers, I read what I want on the web.

The issue isnt one of personnel We clearly have the players with the ability and experience to do well in Europe, albeit we're not as good as RM or Barca and therefore unlikely to win it this season.

Its all about finding a style of play that works well in the CL. That's not necessarily the same style that works in the PL. And that's not an easy task as a host of English clubs have found in the past.

At the start of the season I thought our style of play would be well suited to the CL. I expected us to grind out a series of 1-0 and 0-0 results that would at least get us through the group stage. But then we started goals for fun. I think that has had a negative effect on our CL campaign. Mancini and the players have seemed uncertain as to whether to adopt the same style of play in the CL. In the end we've fallen between two stools. Hopefully we'll learn from the experience.

The 'mighty' manyoo have succeeded just a couple of times in 26 years of fergies rule, so I don't think failing once in our first attempt is so bad!

The only reason to buy any of these papers was to keep up to date with the news and the political opinion of the establishment. I can read Robert Peston's blogs on the BBC any time I like and in the fast changing world, I don't want to read yesterday's news.

Me too. The only paper I ever pick up is the FT and that's because it's free at work.

It is absolutely absurd, I agree. In fact, plenty on here advocate not buying various newspapers because of perceived slights by journalists against MCFC, or something that goes against their brand of politics. Papers are by nature inspired to be perverse and controversial, it's how they make a living, the internet also having more than it's share of journo's who may not like us, so advocating non purchase or, in some cases hoping for some paper's demise seems a tad like petulance actually.
