Dont give a toss about europa league

i remember well, the day we won the league cup in '76.
it felt like the greatest cup competition in the world, other clubs could keep their poxy league titles, their european success against foreign teams that were'nt as good as us, we were the bees knees after winning the cup with the greatest league cup goal of all time.

playing in, and winning any competition, no matter how protracted and resource hungry is always worth it to the fans and players.
it tests the whole squad and brings valuable experience to fringe players.

i have read so much about manure's winning mentality and never give up attitude, well, they have gained that by winning things and having vast experience in all competitions.

we could turn down the europa cup, and not try very hard in our domestic cup competitions and continue to just try to win the league, and or, finish in a champions league spot, but then where would our european experience and cup winning mentality come from?
we might, and i hope do, still play CL football next season, but with little experience against the top european sides we may soon find ourselves out of it and then people will be saying it's because of the lack of european experience, so why would you want to turn down the europa cup where we can gain some knowledge of european play?

sometimes you just have to 'grasp the nettle', try to win any cup competition you have the chance of, play through the pain of too many games until you acheive something. this is how teams acquire a never say die attitude and a winning mentallity.

i know the blue moon is rising, but i am not naive enough to think we are 'nailed on' to win the league or CL next year, it is too soon for us because the squad building isn't complete yet and we are lacking vital european experience, the europa cup would help us with our quest more than hinder us.

disclaimer, all the above IMO

Europa league. just more games to play. Rather consentrate on league. not going to attract the the top players to join us is it?

This money has gone to some peoples heads. We've won f.all for 34 years and you don't think the Europa League is worthy of our presence? Fuck me, this is like everything I hate about the rags.

i agree , will hamper us next season if we are in europa league would rather not bother with it and concentrate on the league.

If UEFA had sat down and designed a competition that would ensure the top 4 in England stayed the top 4 and kept getting all that Champions League funding and make sure no other team in the league would ever have the resources to challenge them, they couldn't have come up with a better competition than the Europa League.

It's almost an extra season of work on top of the Premier League, with hardly any financial reward, and the best players do not want to play in it. No team will ever go far in it and also challenge for a Champs League place.

If we are serious about becoming one of Europe's top clubs, and our owner is, we have to bypass it, break into the top 4 and stay there.

If you want a piss up in a foreign town with City fans, book a city break with your mates.

^^^^^this^^^^^

its not us fans forgetting where we came from, its the reality of the way things are now in football

If we dont finish 4th I hope we do well in the Europa league, it was awsome last time.

Plus it could be an oppertunity to keep Joe Hart happy.

Maybe rest a few key players when close to key league games but still try ang get somewhere with the likes of RSC, Hart, Boyata, Garrido, Sylvinho, Ibrahim, Weiss and people like that.

....................Hart....................
Vidal....Boyata....McGivern?....Garrido

SWP?....Zabaleta....Ibrahim.....Weiss

...............Ball......RSC................

It could also be an oppertunity to test the squad for when we get in the Champions League.

C'MON PEOPLE, HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN? 34 YEARS? WE GET TO THE 1/4s OR SEMIS, PLAY THE REGULARS, WE HAVE THE SQUAD TO DO IT.

Valid points for clubs who have limited resources for squad building.

which of the owners said they dont ever want to play in the europa league?
No one has said it directly but in the business world they are going to want to see some return on their investment.I know it is a long term investment but the europa league generates miniscule amounts compared to the champions league,I know what your saying but common sense says theyre going to want more. We'll see if Mancini is still with us if we miss out on the top 4 to see how serious they are this season.

how many of that team would be playing for us in the champs league the
following year. none (maybe Hart) so much for gaining experience.
