We live in Devon. The longest part of our road trip is where we live to Dover!
There are 2 Premier Inns in Essen, next to train station and near university. It will be interesting to compare German to UK hotels.

I am from Plymouth originally so am familiar with your route! Any suggestions for a hostilery in Essen tonight?

Just checked the Uber app with pickup from Dortmund airport and it showed options to downtown Dortmund
