Much appreciated Rhineland. I fly into Dusseldorf on match day. Do you (or anyone else) know whether the KombiTicket can be used for the train that runs directly from the airport to Dortmund city centre?

It can be used for trains such as S, RE, RB (regional/local transport), but not with the fast trains like IC, EC, IR ICE

e.g. RE1 or RE6

Not advertising for the Deutsche Bahn, but some may use their DB Navigator app on their mobile phones.

Thanks for all this info so far. Just to be clear, I have the KombiTicket in my email with a barcode for VRR, AVV, VRS & WestfalenTarif. Do I need to pre-book a train from Dusseldorf Airport or just arrive at the platform and scan a barcode?

you don't need to pre-book a train (take any (local/regional) train at any time you like on matchday (same goes for bus, tram, tube) VRR, AVV, VRS are all different regional public transport operators - meaning your travel kombi ticket covers all of North Rhine Westphalia, whereas e.g. if you go to a Cologne home match your travel card might only cover the Cologne/Bonn region VRS for free public transport use). You don't need to scan your qr-code until asked for it by the ticket inspector on the train. There's no such things as barriers before you can get to your choosen platform (as of yet).

Can I take a backpack into the stadium, I know they say A4 on their site but on the ticket details it says small bag? I'm only going for the day and I'd have nowhere else to store the fucker.
