Dortmund (H) - CL QF | Post-Match Thread

Congrats to the at least deserved victory. Got a derailed blood pressure. Always afraid that you score. But saw my team with a good plan and did not expect that they could fulfill it for 89 minutes. Happy with the scouts bringing Bellingham to Dortmund. Next Wednesday you are favorite with the last minute goal and the empty ground. Without the yellow wall the home advantage is gone.

Pep needs to tell the players the same he used to say to Eto, messi, Xavi, Iniesta when they won CL 2x in 3 years at Barca. i am sure he did not feed them ohh you need to worry about the opponent, they are very good.

And not praising opponents before the ties, and saying how hard CL is, how you need 25 different factors to be all aligning for you to win it, just praise your players up and make them believe they can go on and win this trophy before they actually do. But he needs to believe it as well.

With this season and form we put together so far, it would be a really great chance to go really far in CL, and everyone else has issues, probably more than we have, we hardly have any injuries at the moment while Real is missing Ramos+Varane,, Bayern missing Lewandowski, Liverpool missing Van dijk etc.

We need to go out with very big balls against Dortmund and beat them there too and let the next opponent be scared of us and not the other way around.

There is nothing wrong with having it as an option but I think we create just as much without. One focal point is much easier to defend against, in my opinion.
I think we handicap ourselves. No team in the world would start without a recognised main forward if they had one available apart from us.

There seemed a lack of confidence in their passing tonight, always turning back rather than passing forward. The guys in the middle of the pitch like Rodhri and Cancelo. I think Pep knows that that pitch isn't helping our play. The ball holds up to much.
Raz knew he wasn't going on and probably Sergio and Torres too. We will benefit from playing on Dortmund's pitch as much as they will.

Thought Pep got caught up in his CL emotions again that have haunted him for the last 3 season's at the QF stage. Whereas is the PL regardless of the score line he's looked relaxed.

We were sloppy tonight, especially in the 1st half. Rodri, Ederson, Walker. Losing the ball. Dwelling on it. Giving it away. Etc. Better in the 2nd half. A bit more composure in-front of goal(by Phil) and we could have scored more goals.

Liked to have seen 1 or 2 more subs prior Dortmund scoring. We were looking tired and leggy.

But there are no bad teams in the QF, so I'll take a 2-1 lead.

Dortmund need to score, so they will attack us. We need to stay patient and catch them on the break.

My only concern for the second leg is that pep might tinker and overthink it,we weren’t that great tonight played in patches and some players looked jaded or just off the pace, interesting that Dortmund tired last 10-15 mins ..

I don't think the false 9 worked. It suited their defence to have us play in front of them. It was disappointing as Hummels has always been weak at defending when he has to turn. Jesus comes on, made the centre halves have to think about the space behind them and we looked more dangerous. I would feel a lot more confident if he starts the second leg.
I agree with you

I also thought Rodri struggled without Bernardo or Fernandinho helping him out

Sorry for not being happy clapper. This performance is not good enough to beat clubs like that.

Don‘t think anyone is particularly enamored with that performance. Yet, we still found a way to get a late goal that changes the complexion of the away match completely.

Dare I say in previous campaigns the visiting team would have scored another late goal for the win.

Shit lineup and lucky to get away with a win. Bellingham goal should have stood.

Pep if ur listening. Stop tinkering with the lineup ffs. And play a striker. And don't be afraid to drop a big name player

Even worse he held the wrong part of his body that has been hit !!! To be fair I have also seen Jesus do the same thing.

Probably because they have watched every cheating **** at other teams do it and get penalties and free kicks.

Doesn't make it right but it is understandable when it happens against us and we get punished.

We were definitely well below par for the first (or only) leg of a quarter final once again, but the good news is that we got through it with a win rather than 0-3 v Liverpool, 0-1 v Spurs, and 1-3 v Lyon. If we play like we did in the second legs of those games (and playing on a better pitch in Dortmund will favor us, as will the away goals rule, if things get crazy), we'll be in pretty good shape.
