Douglas Luiz

I don't think we can sign 2 midfielders this Winter. Unless we plan to fuck off one of the greats, which I don't think we are.

You can't have 2 new guys, Kova, Kevin, Berny, Gundo, Phil and Jack all vying for 3 spots.

That's just too many bodies. In the summer when some ( potentially most of the oldies) are moved on. You can bring in a 2nd CM and an AM.

But for now, We need a CM//DM and a RB
I think you can fit 2 in, bernardo will continue to operate from wide, grealish has played 2 games in the middle, he's not a viable option there so really you've only got kovacic who has his own injury concerns and rarely stays fit for extended periods, a 34 year old gundo who knows and expects to be used sparingly, a broken down kdb who is trying to fix himself up and foden who for whatever reason has been unavailable for large parts and anonymous when available. There's definitely an argument for 2 midfielders however I don't think that will be the case as defensive reinforcements is just as big of a need and we've got just 2 squad openings unless there is also departures.

So I expect 1 defender and 1 holding midfielder in Jan nothing else. I can see luiz being the easiest and most cost effective deal. Has at least some experience with pep so should in theory be able to slot straight in and appears to be available so go for a loan with a buy option, cover his wages and give them a loan fee and that should be easy to finalise then we go for a defender. I can see us bringing in some relatively obscure player that will be seen as a development project with low financial risk. I'd guess a £10-20m fee for somebody who will just be a capable addition.

The FA don't give out work permits.
Well whoever! But you know the principle of what I mean....iirc Pep and the club were really annoyed at the time and there were unconfirmed media reports that it had been deliberately by the relevant organisation, as he was a good player and we were very strong at the time ( sighs yearningly how I wish we had that now) am talking around 2018/2019. Another example of establishment anti City bias I do believe.

All which was and always will be complete and utter horseshit.

He didn't qualify, based on set national criteria at the time, implemented by the government and assessed as fairly as any other. It was unfortunate, but there was nothing underhand or anti City about it.

Little known fact, we Could actually have got him to qualify for a work permit, if we had wanted to. But would have had to pay him a wage equivalent to the top 25% (from memory) of our squad. We chose not to.
