"Dressing room of Dreams"

Very prescient of Dunney and Micah to be wearing these shinpads. Years ahead of their time them lads ;)

The artist Jamie Cooper explained a lot of the references in City Square before the match today. The two ‘oldies’ are indeed Billy Meredith and Eric Brook. Amongst other things, he pointed out the penalty spot he’d painted in front of Frannie Lee indicating the nickname he’d once earned, ‘Lee Won Pen’, and told the story of Micah Richards’ mum being angry with her son for using the ‘f’ word in that famous post-match interview, telling him he should wash out his mouth with soap, hence it’s inclusion in the picture.
Allison is showing Pep Tony Book's birth certificate and telling the story of how it was 'doctored' to make Book appear a little younger when Mal signed him.

Jamie's done a fantastic job with this work and it's an impossible task to satisfy all fans, club staff and officials while also representing as much history as possible. There are lots of crucial people who should be remembered - Josh Parlby for example (the club wouldn't exist without him), Lawrence Furniss, long serving managers Wilf Wild and Les McDowall, and a whole host of major international, trophy winning City stars (Doherty, Toseland, Tilson, Paul etc.)... but taking everything into consideration it's an incredible piece of work and a nice reminder that the club is so much more than the last decade.

Totally agree, Gary. Despite what many deluded, myopic and ill-informed fans of certain other clubs like to think, we have a very rich ‘istree’ indeed and it can’t all be commemorated in one single painting. Hadn’t picked up on the Tony Book birth certificate reference. Thanks. I suppose the Dennis Law backheel might have been considered a little too inflammatory? Heh-heh!
