Drink A Drink A Drink For Colin The King This Dec 26th

Rumours went round the crowd at half time that Colin would be coming on. I was 15 sat on the benches in Platt Lane. We all expected the return of the King....exactly as he was when he departed. After a couple of minutes it became clear he was dragging his leg, cue even louder cheers from everyone...and I mean everyone, all without a dry eye in the house. No one and I mean no one, had a dry eye in the house. Surreal. It proves that crowds can be a humane and sensitive entity, not just a rabble. Anyone who was there will remember it. Everyone was touched by it. Unforgettable.

I was there and if I remember right he came on as a sub at Leeds away (about a year before) and played for a short time at fullback, or is my mind just making this up.

He came back for a few games towards the end of the 75/76 season, including the Leeds game where he scored a cracking goal. It was just 6 months after the original injury and in hindsight he was rushed back too soon as IIRC he broke down again and was out for a further 18 months until that amazing Boxing Day match.

Platt Lane was at its loudest;for Colin the Kings boxing days game;against Newcastle. The Maine stand;now the Colin Bell stand;were even singing;and cheering-All u need is Bell;will be singing his name;on Thursday.

st. Stephens day ;) is my annual pissup, every drink will be dedicated to the king, hope el Mago puts on a tribute to him v dippers.

I was stood towards the back of the Kippax and was only in my mid teens but I can remember a dull first half then Colin came on it was clear he was never going to be the sane but both he and the crowd got the rest of the team playing and we won 4-0.

Atmos was like the Hamburg and 1-0 victory when Komps scored all rolled into one.

Although young I'd watched Colin play for a few seasons from the last quarter of 70-71 and apart from Ali B he was the best / biggest game changer I'd seen in sky blue until recently.

Living and working on the copperbelt in Zambia at the time and in them days the only way to keep up to date or any live football was with my trusty SW radio and the BBC World Service.
I had just listened to the half time reports and was getting ready to listen to second half commentary from another game when they suddenly broke and went to Maine Road live. I just didn't know what to expect but I will never forget such a wonderfull description of the fans reaction when they realized it was The King returning, it certainly brought tears to my eyes and was one of those occasions you will never forget where you were.
Whoever that BBC commentator was I drink to you and of course always to Colin the King.

I'll never forget that day. Was in the kippax and the place was just rocking. His every touch was greeted with applause and cheers. We were desperate for him to score.

Everyone was lifted by him, then again it was like that from the day he signed.

He'll always be the king.

I was in the open bit between the north stand and the kippax on that day, altho I can't remember much about the game, when the king came on,his leg heavily strapped I recall and looked like he could hardly bend it,myself, family and friends were filling up,what a player he was,a true hero to fans of my age,
I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of years back, and I have to say I was like a big kid, anyway one of the songs I liked back then was
Give us a go-o-al,
Give us a go-o-al
Colin Bell,Colin Bell,
The thing is,he always seemed to,
