Drinking alone

Are you comfortable sitting in a pub or restaurant drinking alone? I'm
In Poland for 3 weeks on my own working. Sat in the hotel bar just drinking on my own and perfectly happy.

A few people have commented to me about if I find it weird, but I actually enjoy it.

yeh thats fine by me. gotta eat fella.

I personally hate it. It's bearable when there's a football match on or I'm at a gig but I'd never sit in a pub on my own with nothing but the wall to look at. Having a decent night out with your friends is always great. I'm looking forwards to catching up with a couple of them when I stay over for the West Ham match. It might be more fun than the football...

Perhaps it's me but I always seem to attract the idiot.

Hey Andy's a decent chap ;-)

LOL! If any of you chaps are familiar with The Fast Show then I usually get collared by Archie the pub bore (hardest game in the world) or Billy Bleach (someone's sitting there, mate). I'm never alone when I pop to one of my three local pubs as I know everyone; but I tend to rule out high street bars as a lonely drinker. It must be my face.

I drink on my own quite frequently.

I travel a lot for work, and spend a lot of nights away in hotel rooms in random cities around Europe, so there's not much else to do other than sit in your room watching foreign telly, or go out and try to find a decent local bar. I've got favourite bars in places as far apart as Stockholm, London, Geneva, Madrid, Cork, and so on. And I'm almost always on my own when I drink there.

I also have rather a taste for real ale, so if I'm travelling around the UK, I'll often try to find a suitable pub serving proper beer and have a couple of beers (although I am starting to struggle in London, because I've found 3 or 4 excellent pubs very close together that all sell a decent range of real ales, and I rather like to work my way through them!). And I've also been to quite a few beer festivals on my own when I was younger....!

And when I'm "home alone" (such as when my family all bugger off to Spain for the whole summer), I get through a lot more beer than when they're at home!

There's nothing wrong with checking out where you've found yourself staying but I'd rarely go and sit in a bar solo in my home town. It's fine in the locals because there's always someone in there but the concept of being alone in the Northern Quarter or Deansgate doesn't particularly appeal. Who doesn't like having a laugh with the lads?
