Driving to France/Spain

My dad use to hate flying so we'd get a coach to Spain, 24 hours it would take from Manchester due to stop overs etc.

Not some of my fondest memories, cheers dad haha.

Drive to the south via the bridge at Millau (spelling) breathtaking. if by motor rail Calais to Avignon, Avignon is stunning Worst part for me was always the drive back ,love France had some fantastic family hols

Drove to the south of France about 10 times as I hate flying too.

Use the Toll roads, yes it costs but there is nothing on them.

You need high Viz, warning triangle and Headlight beam deflectors from memory.

Last year had a change from South of France and drove from Manchester to Tossa De Mar ( about one hour north of Barcelona ) would recommend this place to anyone that wants a quiet place.

Set off from Manchester at 10 pm on the Monday night, Dover Calais crossing at 4am and arrived in Tossa at 8pm Tuesday night.

I used to stop over in France but the last three times ive just gone for it and find easier with every trip. Thinking of doing the same trip this year, even in August we drove down with nothing booked and got 12 nights in a decent hotel for 1100 euros for a family room.

Enjoy !

Get the ferry from Plymouth or Portsmouth to Bilbao or Santander, it's a bit expensive but when you consider the money you'll spend on fuel, tolls, euro tunnel, an overnight stay each way and the wear and tear on your car, you can justify the expense.

Northern Spain is awesome! Southern France gets very touristy peak season.
