Dzeko's debut

Lescott summed his time with us up well.

To paraphase: "...Yaya, Vinnie, Sergio are who we are going to play. So if you are their best partner you are going to play. But Edin didn't realize that (about Sergio). He wanted to be looked at the same."

Brilliant player on his day but lost his passion at times and became lazy, great goals especially at Notts County, White Hart Ln & the Swamp.

10 years ago today. I remember it well. Ticket in pocket, few beers before the game, something about this player just excited me... I'm not saying I'd followed him since a youth player and had watched all his games... Just had a good feeling about this lad.

And what a player he turned out to be!

I remember chatting to some Bosnians outside the ground who were absolutely buzzing. Then sat next to two in the ground. This was 11yrs ago so we didn't have as many foreign fans about then which I remember thinking was a bit of a novelty at the time which for me just added to the anticipation.

I'd got myself a seat right at the top. Can't remember why, I didn't usually sit up with the god's, but it gave a decent MOTD style view of the action.

(From Wikipedia)
He made his debut for the club in a 4–3 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on 15 January in which he set up Yaya Touré for the third goal of the match. Džeko marked his FA Cup debut on 30 January 2011 with the equalising goal in Manchester City's fourth round match against Notts County which ended in a 1–1 draw.

yeah remember it well, looked good on the night, took a bit longer though to settle in midway through the season and often appearing as a sub.

i think that equalizing goal against NC was huge though and maybe gets forgotten sometimes. It was a big big moment in helping tear down that banner.

Hit some huge goals at tail end of that season after Negredo's dried up, also ran the clock down lying on the putch at Goodison. Goalscoring record in Germany, England and Italy confirms his ability. Still have the feeling we never quite got the best out of him as we didnt fully play to his strengths. Should be remembered as of the players who was instrumental in our rise.

Funny, i was just mentioning his nap in that game on another thread.

I never thought of him as being lazy, honestly. I thought he was just not motivated in the final season with us. You could see it. He knew that change was coming, and that he wasn't going to be part of that change. Will always wish him well. Says good things about us, too.
Scored some pretty key goals in the 2011-12 season, as well. Including a certain equalising goal in May, 2012.

Many players sadly lacked motivation that season, for an outgoing manager. In fact the manager himself lacked it at the tail end.

Dzeko left in pellegrini’s second season!

I think for whatever reason Manuel had just decided to ship him out and dzeko knew it. Dzeko/Aguero was never a partnership that really clicked, and that was to his detriment. He was imperious often as a lone striker at the end of 13/14. I think MP was after another striker to click into a partnership with Serge like Negredo did. Dzeko wasn’t that player, and sadly his replacement (Bony) was even further from it.

i dont think any of us can deny that selling Dzeko and replacing him with premier league hot shot Wilfred Bony was one of our greatest ever decisions.

Wilfred would go on to be a legend for club and country and now has over 150 premier league goals to his name.

I remember when he was laying down on the pitch indicating a shoulder issue. I don't remember who the ref was for that match, but he stood over him telling him to get up, etc. The ref wouldn't allow the medical staff to come on because he knew Dzeko was faking. While everybody knew it was gamesmanship, it was very bad form to not allow medical on the pitch when a guy is claiming injury. He finally relented and allowed medical to come on. The medical staff did their job and checked him out and made him go through the protocols before allowing him back on the pitch. I liked him before that match, I grew to love him due to that match. His place in City's history is written. When we would see that Roma was on TV, my wife and I would check to see if he was playing and if so, we would watch just because it brings back the memories.
