Do people die in pain with this Ebola? I just want a peaceful death!

Bad news. You bleed to death from the inside. That's why bodily fluids are causing the spread.

How contagious is it?

i thought this was a flesh eating bug?

No, different disease. That's a bacteria and this is a virus. You can look up flesh eating bacteria on Wiki to see the difference. It ain't pretty.

Just heard breaking news that a cruise ship has been refused clearance to dock in Belize because one of the passengers is exhibiting Ebola symptoms and wait for it......this passenger was another nurse that treated that Duncan lad that died of Ebola in Dallas.
So this nurse after being given 3 weeks quarantine leave from work to monitor herself after treating Mr.Duncan decided to go on a cruise with her husband....the selfish stupidity of some people boggles the mind

And this is what I said a week ago. There is enormous potential for this to spread in the western world, partly because your average person in the west just will not put themselves out, will not accept any kind of inconvenience to their lives. Christ this is someone who has been quarantined because they are in such a high risk category and even they couldn't be arsed keeping themselves to themselves for a bit. What are the chances of expecting people who are in a lower risk category to take it seriously and take any meaningful measures?

The enormous potential is to the developing world. Low risk in the developed world with medical facilities and materials.

From belizean.com:

“Late afternoon on Wednesday, Oct. 15., we were made aware by the U.S. CDC of a guest sailing this week on board Carnival Magic who is a lab supervisor at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. At no point in time has the individual exhibited any symptoms or signs of infection and it has been 19 days since she was in the lab with the testing samples. She is deemed by CDC to be very low risk. At this time, the guest remains in isolation on board the ship and is not deemed to be a risk to any guests or crew. It is important to reiterate that the individual has no symptoms and has been isolated in an extreme abundance of caution. We are in close contact with the CDC and at this time it has been determined that the appropriate course of action is to simply keep the guest in isolation on board.”

I don't doubt it's a huge problem in the developing world. My point really is that it probably shouldn't be a big risk over here given our resources and infrastructure but I believe it will be for the reasons i mentioned. I think we are complacent about things with a huge element of "it'll never happen to us" meaning that people are more arsed about whether their lives are temporarily disrupted. Hopefully Ebola won't wipe out vast amounts of people in the west but one day something will.

I was listening to interviews on the radio with charities & aid group reps.
Some hefty loads of medical supplies on the way, what struck me was that they were also sending money.
Now call me suspicious but for eg the Pakistan floods,i'm not sure the people that need this money will ever see a £ of it.
More than likely some fucker will be buying a new plane or building a big fuck of Palace out of the money countries are sending to buy supplies to tackle the outbreak.

Read today that October is the start if the malaria season in west Africa and at first the symptoms are similar to Ebola so another complication

From Private Eye (some truth in this actually):

Joy in Africa as First White People Get Ebola
by our West Africa Correspondent Eppy Demic

THERE were joyous scenes across Africa today as it was confirmed that the first white people in the West had contracted Ebola, meaning a cure would now be on the way.
"For so long the West has looked the other way as thousands of black people have died from Ebola in squalid under funded clinics," said one doctor in a wretched Sierra Leone hospital overwhelmed with Ebola sufferers. "We could only hope and pray for the day when it would start killing white people in Europe and America and we'd finally get a break"
President Obama said western politicians would now do their best to pretend as if they'd always cared about the epidemic and weren't just throwing money at the problem now as Westerners were sick.

Didn't happen in Nigeria but let's not let that ruin a convenient stereotype.

i wonder if some islamist extremists or indeed any terror organisation with a grudge against the west have thought of dosing themselves up with ebola and then infecting as many people as possible creating a huge outbreak in US/europe.
it has to be more effective than explosive backpacks surely?

In principal your are probably right mate. But people dp not know a bomb is hidden in a rucksack. While it is pretty difficult to hide symptoms and in the current climate it will not take a lot to panic people.
