Don't see how winning the champions League determines his mind... its nice but he doesnt get a winners medal for joining the current champions you know!!!! He wants to go to a team that has a realistic chance of winning it next year!

So, it does matter how they won it, and it does matter where they finished up in the league.

red or sky blue is his choice.

They had been reporting Nasri to United for some time.

Could we let Nasri go to United and bring in Hazard instead? I know who i'd rather have....................

I think a big part of the reason Hazard changed his mind about coming to us is that we already have three similar players all vying for the same places that he wants to occupy: Tevez, Nasri and Silva. I think Hazard would probably be better than Tevez and certainly better than Nasri.

Also, Mancini doesnt play wingers which is why AJ and Milner cant get a game. Hazard will be aware of this.

Chelsea and United both have 'vacancies' for that role - which is why he's attracted there, and it could see both clubs changing their respective formations to match ours i.e. 4-2-3-1 and why both have been trying to get the inferior Modric on board too.

You could see Ferguson switching to a 4-2-3-1? Along with Chelseas unnamed tacticless manager?

Doubtful. I don't think people realize how much the media is playin into Hazards mind games. We often blame agents and players for stroking the flames but this would be a lot easier if the fans just took the player for his word. It's not like Hazard dispelling his every notion to the media, and if he did it's not like his agents would be truthful.

It seems smart to me for a player to say hes going to United to grab more money from City's grasp. It also seems smart to include a tertiary buyer so the clubs know if thy both stand firm neither will get him.

Just wait and see. No matter where he goes he will get 35 total games at least in his preferred position. He will play in whatever free role best suits him as Nasri/Silva and even Milner have in the past.

Yes, that's a fair point about them changing their formations - but they haven't had the personnel to do it in the past, plus the 4-2-3-1 formation is proving to be the best.
Strangely, it was a formation invented, i believe, by Brazil.
Perhaps Fergie now thinks wingers makes his side too vulnerable? Certainly, the excellent performance of Young in that role worked for England last night.

I'm not sure about the agents 'trying it on' by offering their man to the highest bidder either - a very risky game to play IF he, hazard, had already made up his mind which he wanted to pick.

It may also come down to Manager's - or lack of them. Given that Chelsea don't have one and United probably wont after next Season. That sort of impending insecurity would play on a youngster's mind too I suppose.

these stories have come from most reliable source so far, and the thing that concerns me is that they mention we have pulled out of the race, which is exactly how I thought it might play out, rather than wait on him to announce going somewhere else

same as kaka and sanchez transfers

still only stories though, even if his agent is meeting cfc, it doesn't mean his mind is made up

L'Equipe reporting today that Hazard close to signing 5 year Chelsea deal.

Also saying that a switch to United isn't out of the question but a switch to City is almost dead.

<a class="postlink" href="https://twitter.com/#!/RBairner" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://twitter.com/#!/RBairner</a> well worth following for developments.

He works for the least reliable media outlet on the interweb ? What previous does he have that leads you to recommend him please.

I find the goal.com bashing amusing to say the least. Mostly, they report news of other newspapers with regards to transfers. I think people may find it useful to hear from a French correspondent what the French papers are saying with regards to football, so I recommended following him to be helpful.

Ok, I did ask politely why you were recommending him and you have responded in kind. Thanks for that, if a few more threads followed this route instead of the usual "bollocks your a rag" then it would be a much better place. I will keep an eye on Mr Bairner for a while and see how it pans out, although I am still more than sceptical about Goal as I have seen as much evidence of made up stories as I have those plagiarised from other news sources.

Actually, the 4-2-3-1 was invented in Spain by Irureta when he was at Santander in 93. However, it didnt really become popular until he successfully used it as Deportivo and almost immediately adopted by Capello at Real and Benitez at Valencia.

EDIT for more info.

A coach called Lillo has claimed that he was using 4231 at Cultural in 1991, but Irureta seems to get the credit for popularising it. According to Jonathan Wlison, John Toshack at Real used to play with two holding midfielders as did Co Adriaanse in the late 80s at Den Haag but this was more of a split striker system in a 4321 than a 4231. Veneables brought it into the English lexicon around 1996 but only as an experimental Xmas tree which was never adapted to 4231 in this country. We could have been 5 years ahead of everybody tactically with a bit more bravery.

Our apparent interest in Hazard and Kagawa would indicate that we're changing formation next season. Most likely for big games and in Europe, can still see 4-4-2 being used at OT against weaker sides.

L'equipe saying City have pulled out and he us likely going to Chelsea! I suspect it could be true as we are big on signing the right personalities and have a strong no dickheads policy.

How can Chelsea guarantee him his preferred starting place in the team without a manager being appointed, unless of course Roman is picking the team?

Tolmie has posted on the quiet thread to keep the faith on hazard, rvp and javi Martinez so I will keep the faith
