But but but but spurs never spend any money they do it with academy graduates like Bale, Van Der Vaart and Modric!

Oh what a hilarious scything witty post.

That doesn't even make sense. I think most fans are aware that through the years we've spent a fair bit, I don't see any Spurs fans with the same barcelona academy fallacy of money spent/players produced

And in terms of our academy we've not seen much since King but Livermore has made a terrific start and Caulker has a serious amount of potential

I can't seem to find the article but there were concrete quotes with Lukaku saying he did not want to join Chelsea if he was just going to be loaned out. This was before he joined. I think he was reassured he would get more time than he has done and must be a bit disgruntled with the whole thing, and I believe this is the kind of frustration that other players would be wary of ie Hazard

I've got nothing against you, you're a good poster but if what I've just written is correct (I may be way off the mark, I realise that) then it does make me slightly happy, stockpiling all the upcoming talent not with any intention of playing them just to stop rivals getting them is frustrating.

I can understand the frustration with that. I don't remember Lukaku saying that but it would make sense considering where he is. Fact is if he wants to start, he has to outperform Fernando Torres (and I could probably do that) and Drogba in training. If he had his heart set on coming in at 19 and starting for a CL club he set his sights a little too high. That said his brief cameos have looked really good so far, but he needs to work on his technique. Miles off Drogba yet.

Fair enough mate, he has looked good in patches but opportunitys have been surprisingly rare considering Torres's form. Maybe if our two clubs can forget the bad blood over the Modric thing both parties would benefit with Lukaku coming on loan to us :) although I don't think it would happen without Levy nailing down an agreed transfer fee which isn't in your best interests

Wage wise with Hazard personal terms have been agreed according to him, so I guess it can't be too much of a stumbling block, and we wouldn't be wasting time negotiating if there wasn't a chance of agreeing a fee. He doesn't seem to be about the money, he knows that Chelsea and City could pay him crazy wages but he also knows commanding a first team place will be unlikely and as a result he will be less satisfied, he seems to like English football, and my above description of the English team's situation sums up why a move to Spurs isn't such a crazy one.
He said the same thing about us not a month ago. We have a whole interview of him saying it somewhere on our forums. Before that he said the same about Arsenal and before then it was Real Madrid with Zidane's shout out to him. I would be really surprised if he agreed to fit into Spurs' wage structure with clubs like that, with the financial clout, all out to get him.

By the way, you're right about City's massive rotation, but at Chelsea he'd be competing with Malouda. Mata should be in the middle and our lack of a left winger has stuck him out there. But I'm personally hoping for somebody faster and more direct than Hazard. I'd rather Gotze or even Willian because we're STILL missing a player like that after five years post Robben.

I can't remember exactly what he said about Chelsea but was it as blatant as what he's saying now? I don't think he'd sign before we got champions league for certain. And as for Real Madrid circling, I think he wants to be able to play football at a high level consistently, and that judging by a few interviews comes first before money, personally I don't really see the difference between 50k a week and 100k, it's all too much for me to comprehend....

It's quite similar to why Eriksen (the Danish lad) turned down City over the summer I guess

RE Mata, I watched him a fair bit at Valencia and I'm not sure if I remember him playing too much n the middle, he obviously has the talent to play there. Wouldn't mind seeing Willian in the premier league as well...

I read Spurs were lookiing to seal a deal with Barcelona, involving Bale and 2 young barça players +30M in return and considered Hazard their first choice in case Modric left for MU.

Considering Modric is a deep lying midfielder and Hazard's a winger it wouldn't make much sense to me.

Since when do Spurs buy £25m+ players?

I think our transfer record is Modric at 15.5 million according to various sources and apparently we're still paying that one off in installments...

But we have been fairly savy in recent transfer windows, moves like Pav out for 8m and Saha (who is much more useful) in for free, and Nelsen in for free enabling Charlie and Bassong to go out on loan bringing in a fee and losing the wages, every little helps and we haven't had a proper massive splurge of a big money signing since Defoe I guess.

In the unlikely scenario that Hazard comes to us, his value is unlikely to depreciate as he is maybe 21? Unless he has a massive shocker in the league of course....

Spursprinter1,

Do you think Spurs would break their wage structure to give Hazard 80-120k type deals? Do you think that Modric, Bale, Lennon, Walker and VdV will all maintain their same wages in the in the next 12 months.

Because personally I can't see a situation where Hazard makes more money than Bale or Modric. He is the hottest commodity in European football at the moment. I personally think that he is doing all he can to get the best deal possible. His agent brought up United in January, dropped City hits later in the month and then he mentions Spurs.

I don't think Spurs have what's capable to make their entire side of comfortable with the idea of overpaying a single player on plaudits won by the good of the squad. We're talking about a massive fee (30-35) with wages that will likely be 24-28 mil over 4-5 years. That a serious amount of change. Lennon is worth about 10-15 mil and the ship has sailed on him as being the next big thing. Niko Kranjcar is worth 8-10 million but then the club will need to find a replacement for a fixture congestion. Sandro might be worth something to someone...

But the club has some incredible amount of thinking to do. On top of the fact that goalkeepers are going for about 15-25 mil. Unless Brad Friedel is going to play until he dies then I don't see them getting any resale.

Buying Hazard would be a luxury buy for a club who don't have the funds available to make luxury buys. If I'm Spurs admin I'd eyeing up a longterm replacement for Ledley King. Ledley has been the best English centrehalf next to some guy named Lescott. But he hasn't the knees nor luck to see it through a Champions League filled season.

Your club is notorious for "fallen deals". Lose out on 22 million pound Remy, take Saha on a free. They have a tendency to play up massive transfers only to buy bit part players. I think you better hope the Hazard deal falls through for the sake of what it could do to your club over the next 4-5 years.

Chelsea will outspend you, Arsenal will out-develop you, Liverpool's owners will outbid you, City will outspend, United will outspend. You are the odd man out in the money game. Your club needs to be smart. Hazard isn't a smart move.

I've had a dig through the thread and when he had his say on us.

Eden hazard @hazardeden10
Alors propre sur moi au CFC?? Vos avis lo

Which was translated by a French fan as: "Is it OK for me to go to CFC? What do you think?"

Which came after a TV interview where he confirmed his interest in England and that he had spoken to somebody from Chelsea quite extensively, who had watched him over 20 times. Said scout Guy Hilliton was interviewed by the press days later saying: "I must have watched Hazard more than 20 times for Chelsea. I've written a 100 per cent positive report every time. If Eden joins a big European club he will get even stronger."

We have a 23 page thread on him from this season alone (I don't follow the transfer muppetry for the most part) and our forums have a lot more posts per page than here so the drama with him extends back quite far. His comments about Arsenal and Madrid were just as enticing. The guy is a massive tease. He'll be talking about United next, watch.

1.There is no printer involved!!! ARRRGH!!!! ;)

2. This does seem to be a commonly used theory, but I don't believe players and agents are having a word with each other finding out who earns the most and then storming in to Levy's office to renegotiate. It's up to each agent to work out a deal which works best for the player they represent and the club and I doubt Levy lets any match highest earner clauses in to proceedings.

Once again, I don't think Hazard is about the money, or at least not in the short term. He knows that if he goes to City Chelsea Barca Madrid he will probably land a bumper contract for five years on big wages, but there is a greater chance of him not succeeding at these clubs due to a supposed higher quality of player at these clubs, therefore in the long run getting a 5 year deal at a club like Spurs which will be easier to gain a starting place and therefore a better reputation will make it more likely to earn much more lucre over the course of his career as opposed to earning shitloads at the start then fizzling out.

3. Perhaps but ever the optimistic I'm hopeful his thinking is that of what I posted above. As one of europe's hottest talent he knows he has to make a wise move or he'd regret it, like Eriksen did with you guys, coming to City in the summer wouldn't have been good for his career in my opinion.

4. It's a lot of money but we have been fairly prudent in recent times. I don't see why we can't have Lennon Bale and Hazard in the same squad, hopefully over the course of next season we'll play 60 games or so, there's plenty of time and depending on who you believe our financial situation is looking pretty good although I don't pretend to know much about that side of things. Sandro is worth a hell of a lot in my opinion, although I'm hoping he doesn't leave in the near future, he's just been unlucky with injuries so far this season.

5. We're not going to attempt a De Gea splurge, that kind of money for a keeper isn't justifiable. Whatever we do we'll have to be savy, but every season bargains are available especially with contracts running down with less major money signings due to the impending FFP rules, Adler looks to be leaving his club on a free off the top of my head. Gomes looks to be doing the same....

6. I'm not sure whether you've watched Swansea much this season but Caulker looks the real deal, I don't want to over hype him but it's hard not to. Sent down to league one, is their best player and takes a clean sweep of the awards, sent to the championship, does exactly the same, sent to the premiership, an unfortunate injury but he's getting a football education and looks a real player.

7. Some ambition was shown but we were knocked back, I wasn't disappointed as there is so much pressure on big January signings to come in to a new culture and hit the ground running. Our signings in january were to get fresh faces in and allow disgruntled players to leave either permanently to bring funds in or to play football.

8. I'm not sure how buying one of Europe's hottest talents at 21 isn't a smart move, you can't have too much quality and he seems to be interested judging by the quotes.

With us being one of the slowest teams in the league this is the sort of player we should be moving heaven and earth to get. If Spurs land him and a tall striker (Adebayor?) they will be a real title threat next season with Bale and Hazard on the wings.

IF Harry goes any new manager in will want his own players. Hazard is a young player but is he worth the quoted £25 to £30 million in some papers? I dont think so. With the new money rules the price of the transfer fees will drop sooner rather than later. I dont think that amount is doable for most teams at the moment. I think there will be a few clubs in for him but with the manager more than likely going I think other options may well be more of a goer for Hazard than Spurs.

Also will Modric and Bale want out when Harry goes? Modric wanted to move earlier this season I wouldnt be shocked to see either the Rags or Chelsea go for him come the next transfer window. As for Bale a 1 trick pony I cant see clubs splashing huge cash on him. Hasnt done it in the big games this season and his value is way over priced get better for cheaper in Europe.

London is sometimes more attractive to foreign players which could give Spurs the edge over city & utd.
Haven't read the whole thread but is he mates with Kompany?

Its your manager that isnt aware of it. I agree youve done a job to get where you are on what you have spent but to claim "well we dan it wiv aat eny manny" is a joke
