That move that left Antonio falling to the ground (and sticking out his boot to catch Eddie’s Achilles) was David-esque.

He’s a midfielder that it turns out is also one of the world’s best goalkeepers.

The only downside so far is that you can tell he's a relatively inexperienced 23 year old goalkeeper. Particularly his positioning has been a bit suspect. I'm sorry.

On the bright side, that's something that gets sorted very quickly. De Gea at United's a good example of how valuable a few months experience in the PL can be.

Before anyone gets on my back, I love Ederson as a keeper and I wouldn't trade him for anyone in the world, and that includes outfielders. His reflexes, bravery, composure, and his incredible ball playing abilities could elevate him to legendary status soon enough.

Like in which situations did you find his positioning suspect?

This isn't an accusation, I simply just haven't noticed it.

Solely set pieces and crosses to be honest. Do you know how the best goalkeepers always have this habit of looking like the ball's just been hit straight at them(e.g. good old Shay Given's face)? But it's really a case of smart positioning as opposed to look. I just feel like Ederson's not got that about him. If Southampton had hit any of their big corner chances on target for example I'm not convinced he'd have stopped any of them.

I should add by the way his positioning is still really good in these situations for me. Just not quite up to the standard of his other qualities.

I think it's just a case of not being 100% adapted to the league yet. I reckon in Portugal it would've been a lot easier for him to dominate and come out for the ball and here he's having to get used to the fact he can't always do that for some of the balls that he would've previously. It's probably a lot for a keeper with not much more than 50 top flight first team games.

His open play positioning is excellent. The only times a team's cut us open and scored through the middle one way or another that I can recall were Everton, Arsenal and Napoli; and I don't think there was much he could do with those, he was unlucky vs Everton and the other two were good finishes.

I should add as a disclaimer this could all be bullshit and a GK coach could really shut me down. Compared to everyone else we barely get to see what Ederson does and even then you don't really think about it. It's just I think about keepers who I knew were good in this sense and try and compare Ederson and I can see a difference.

Let's call it instinct. But remember like you my instinct was to defend Otamendi last season so maybe it's a good instinct haha ;)

I thought he could maybe save the goal yesterday, looked bit slow in reaction. but I might be harsh and probably am as he is fantastic overall.

I think he could have saved it, i'm not sure you'd expect him to though. I suspect any time a goalie gets something on the ball they'll feel a bit disappointed they let it in.

Should have done much better with the goal yesterday, I think he's a very good goalkeeper for what Pep wants in terms of distribution and positioning high up the pitch but his shot stopping needs serious work IMO.

Go out there and get the best goalkeeping coach we can find (possibly we already have him, I don't know) and work extensively on making Ederson the best goalkeeper the world has ever seen because he's capable of it and has a good fifteen years left to improve.
