Tough game for the u19s/EDS v Dortmund at the Joie Stadium, it's on City+ or you can buy tickets...

Dortmund usually always have a good side at this level and as seen in the above pic tickers are still available if you fancy watching it live, the prices below are also very reasonable at £3 a seat while u21s / over 65s go for £1...

How does this work with 22 qualification places?

Do the Europa lot get 10 places?

I think they play 6 games which mirror the CL main draw fixture, rather than 8 and then the top 22 are joined by 10 teams that follow the "Domestic Champions Route" to give the last 32. Europa teams don't come into it.

Ah ok, by Europa I meant a secondary compy for non-CL senior teams.

It's a secondary route but not related to Europa League, it's related to the winners of the domestic U18 Championships or equivalent from what I can see. Villa are the English team involved and they won the U18 title last year.

Starting 11 today - Brits, Nfonkeu, Noble, Drake, Mfuni, Samba, Fapetu, Mukasa, Oboavwoduo, Sangare, Warhurst
Subs - Hudson (GK), Vickery (GK), Courtman, Wain, Holt, Samba, Dunbar-McDonald, Lamb

Young side with players released to play at the WC. UEFA seem to have it as Floyd Samba starting and Tyrone on bench.

A fair battering for the Germans and the first chance they get into our area turns into a pen. Funny old thing, though, The shirt tug wouldn't have impeded anyone but the German manages to fall forward onto the ground in a flash. I'd want the pen at the other end, and t'other day at the Joie one of the our players got pulled back with a hand on an arm and we got fuck all!

Defence seem to concede to many goals.

Oboavwoduo seems to have stagnated somewhat.

Agreed. We can dominate a game but just can't defend the transitions. The way we play in attack seems reliant on a moment of brilliance from one of the wide players who then look for a ball across/back or a shot. We often lose the ball and leave ourselves short as a result.

We've definitely got some talent, but middle of the park doesn't seem quite right in terms of the control and skill to break teams down. Not sure if we tend to put out younger teams than the opposition though. There are a fair few 16 year olds in today's squad and Mfuni is 17 so a good couple of years younger than those he's up against. Mad to think Dowman at Arsenal is still only 15 and playing in the CL proper!

I think this u19 team this year is too immature compared to last years group even with the lads at the World Cup and looks like it will be a struggle. Also lack the cohesion compared to previous groups that had a significant core of boys who had grown up together through younger age groups. So many expensive imports brought in at u14 onwards kills identity and cohesion. 11 talented individuals doesn’t make a team. Today to be fair it is extremely threadbare due to World Cup and injuries so have to take it on the chin, but needing anything from Real Madrid away in December would be a problem
