EDS v Lincoln / Sky Sports+ / 7pm / Tues 12th Nov / EFL Trophy.

Of the 16 premier league u21 teams only 1 has finished in the top 2 of the 16 groups, that was Villa who finished 2nd due to playing overage players (Buendia and Barkley) in one of their matches.

The EDS will never get back to how it was. We can’t sign foreign players until they’re 18 now.

I don’t think it’s got anything to do with foreign players, we were just lucky to have Palmer, McAtee, Doyle, Delap, Charles, Burns, Mbete, Trafford, Robertson etc all come through within a couple of years of each other.

True, but the price of buying them is now far more, so unless they’re from Manchester, we are having to pay big fees.

We've still got good youngsters coming through, many weren't available tonight, and some have spent the last few weeks with the first team, and just didn't look terribly interested (I only watched 42 minutes though).

You were as interested as they were then?
On a serious note though, doesn’t bode well when faced with a match against full time professional footballers. You would think it’s an opportunity to show what you can do in a true competitive match.

Whilst a tad disappointed that the strong spine of the team (S Pusey, O'Rielly and Dickson) couldn't be more influential there has to be some perspective before writing them all off.
The keeper was from the Academy and only just 17. The rest were all EDS squad members. 1 x 17, 2 x 18, 5 x 19,
1 x 20.
The bench consisted of 2 players that aren't even listed in the Academy squad, so likely 16 yo and then 17/18 year olds.
Missing Mfuni, Noble, Naylor, Wright and maybe Warhurst.
Most of them have 3 or even 4 years before the club cut them loose (find another club) or improve ( I accept that most won't to 1st team level).
I'm going to give them a little longer.

I won't lie that was awful watch last night and it even had me nodding off towards the end, still though the lads need to take it in stride and learn from their mistakes.
With such a hammering they should still have still learnt something, their careers are going to have plenty of ups and downs.

It's better to get an early major low point out the way to properly humble them and it'll make them more determined in the long run, some say the defeat is too much but sadly I'm not sure even the first team would've done much better based on our current from.

They'll be hungrier than ever to get this out their system and make an immediate impression following the international break, in life you learn from all your setbacks too so it might be a bad night but it's just another game that goes towards their education.

Aren’t Lincoln 5th in Division 1. Quite a bit more experienced if so
They are but this is very much a second string team, it's the same for most teams in this competition.

Even though they're a third tier side we must remember that they're doing well and high in confidence, depending how galvanised those players are the second string will be wanting to prove themselves good enough for their boss.

Just because they're a League One team and doesn't mean they don't have some decent players, they've got a young hungry manager and clearly the backup players wanted to prove that they can be part of things.
