Eduardo Ban

The ref didn't deal with it, so it had to be punished. If it was an incident off the ball which the ref didn't see, UEFA would have also dealt with it.
It's the right decision, and hopefully it'll send a message to all those that cheat.
But a difference wont be made until someone, some manager comes out and said that it wont be tolerated here.
But they wont. Winning is everything, and we sit on our moral high horses here and shout out cheat everytime Eduardo takes the pitch.
I can't stand diving, I can't stand cheats, but that said would I be annoyed or would people here be annoyed if we were given a penalty by a player blatantly diving, but it was a penalty to win us the game, and the player who took it missed on purpose, would ye say fair play, proper order, or would ye be more annoyed at him then the cheater?
Would the manager punish the player who dived or the player who missed it?

We can all have moral highgrounds now. I mean, it was Wenger who said something like, I'm 100% against diving when my players aren't involved.

The only way to clamp down on it imo is for managers to stop condoning it. Or it'll never end.

It's been a cancer growing in the game over the last few years, especially since imo the Chelsea takeover and the new breed of players like Drogba and other players from Europe, just brought it on another level completley.

I hate cheaters, I can't stand them, I hated Ronaldo for it, Henry, Drogba, I despised him on so many levels for it.
I mean look at this crap..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgbU2zejzgk
It's his type, it's his kind that are ruining the game. You wouldn't see that on a rugby pitch and if you did see it from a rugby player you'd be sure that they'd get a smack across the head, probably from their own player, for doing it, because it looks ridiculous. You can't laughed at and given out to for it, and you do in hurling and gaelic football as well. You look like an idiot if you do it in those sports. I don't see why that attitude isn't there for football.

But I hate them, I hate divers, but we're all just a bunch of hypocrites, we'll condem Eduardo, and rightly so for that disgraceful dive.
But if we win a penalty against Man U in the derby, but it's a dive, and we've a chance to win the game with it, and one of our players decides to, or is instructed by the manager to miss, and we went on to loose the game.

Would ye go right, fair play, he did the right thing. Or would the reaction be you fuckin idiot.
I think we all know that most people's reaction would be the second answer.

And until our attitudes change and the attitudes of the managers and clubs, then diving will never go away.
Managers need to punish it,

The only difference between Eduardo and Rooney was the Celtic keeper rightly made sure his arms wernt stretched out for Eduardo go go over. The little grin he had on his face when he saw the ref gave the penalty deserves the 2 match ban.

Rooney was a dive, he was going over before even getting to Almunia, but Almunia kept his arms out and clearly gave Rooney something to fall over so penalty. Soft yes, but Almunia didnt get the ball.

I think its great they are banning players now for blatant dives BUT and a big BUT (no not Anderson's), is they HAVE to now do this for every dive conned. I wont hold my breath for them to ban Ronaldo or Rooney or Gerrad etc.

It is time the 4th official talks to the ref after watching video evidance. It took Sky seconds to show a replay of Richards offside goal on the weekend. I just cant believe they simply cannt implement this. Lucky that excuse of a linesman at Palace and the offside at Portsmouth didnt cost us, but with so much money involved these days it could have knocked us out of the cup and cost us 2 points.

Time for this i feel.

it's about time, but why does he get a 2 match ban just because he got away with it?
if the ref saw it, celtic would've got a free kick, and eddy would've been carded, end of
it's a shame it's not happened to a liverpool player though, would love to see benitez go ape again :)

I totally agree that cheating has no part to play in the game, but here as usual is the inconsistency of the punishment. As has already been stated if the ref saw the dive in the game then it's a yellow if he hasn't then it's a 2 match ban. I really don't see anything other than a successful appeal here by Arsenal otherwise UEFA will have to trawl through every European game so far this season and issue retrospective bans for all similar offences and arm refs to send players off for diving.
The problem here though is what is classed as cheating, is pulling a shirt on the blind side of the ref cheating, is shouting for a throw in to your team when you blatantly know it is the opposition's ball cheating?
It's all about consistency, the refs need to be told in exactly what instances a player should be sent off for cheating and one hopes they then follow that rule. The problem is bringing this in mid-season as some teams have already gained an advantage.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

They justify it by saying he cheated the ref by making him believe he was touched when he wasn't. Sends a clear message to cheats we will get you if it aint spotted by the match officials
How can they prove he wasn't? I watched it again today and I think the keeper hits his foot. He was already going down but then so was Rooney on Saturday.
How is it any different from Bristol City players failing to notify Rob Shoebridge that Crystal palace had scored when the ball bounced back out of the net?

This is a very good point.

A player being punished for cheating, ya, right, a joke of a decision.

Just because other players, including our own, have gotten away with cheating in the past, doesn't mean that players should continue to get away with it..ffs. I can't see how anyone who has any respect for the game can criticize this decision.
