EFL Playoffs time

There's no precedent to look to to guess what the sanction may be.

It could be a small fine or it could be expulsion from the play offs.

If it had been in the league, I guess there’d be a fine and a 3-0 forfeit of the game, but that can’t really be done now having played out the second leg at 0-0.

My gut suggests they’ll get a hefty fine and if they go up, sued by Middlesbrough for potential loss of earnings. All depends on the evidence you mentioned. If it’s multiple times, it could be expulsion.
Part of the problems with many football organisations is that they don't have specified punishments for breaking the rules so they have to make it up as they go along. They'll call it judging each case on its merits but it's more likely to be based on who shouts loudest. If other clubs believe Southampton have done the same thing in the past then you have to question why the EFL haven't acted on it.

Photographic evidence though this time round. Clear and damning.

Also other clubs in the EFL reckon they have bits on Southampton doing it to them.

I think Southampton should be worried personally.
Chuck the fuckers out and just promote Hull.

Issue is, if they don’t, teams can then spy on each other without any meaningful sanction.
I' m struggling with this. As far back as I can remember clubs have always sent scouts to watch upcoming opposition in actual games. Boro can moan all they like but given the open nature of their training ground there is no such thing as a closed session. The only things Soton are guilty of are trespass and going against the spirit of the game whatever that might be. Others might call it getting an edge

That's not true though is it? There's specific laws that 'prohibits any club from observing, or attempting to observe, another club's training session within 72 hours of a scheduled match between the two clubs' they have knowingly broken that law.

Is there anything listed as appropriate punishment? Genuinely intrigued.

I was not aware of that. Thanks

Bastard Salford bastards look to have nicked it at the end of extra-time. Bastards.
Come on Ged. They're the plucky underdog, operating on a shoestring where they can absorb losses of between £4-5m every season. Their accumulated losses as at June 2025 were £27.5m after 6 years in the EFL.

It's an astonishing story of success against the odds.

and weighing up free stadium in irlam

So that's Bolton, Stockport Salford, Hull and Notts County at Wembley over the holiday weekend, impressive show from the northern clubs, even more so if Boro get put through. I expect London will be very lively, even the weather is forecast to kind, plenty of liquid refreshment taken.
