EFL Playoffs time

This has happened on three occasions, they must have gained some advantage on what they saw watching other teams training. If they didn’t why keep doing it?

This was first story on the BBC news on Tuesday night. Understandably it’s a huge story with the implications of promotion to the Premier League, where was the coverage from the media when Liverpool illegally accessed City’s scouting software and the clamour and debate about what sort sanction they should receive?

The club were naive taking hush money off Liverpool and showed a soft touch. Probably why the likes of Uefa and the PL thought they could try take the club down with their bullshit sanctions and charges.
It was pretty embarrassing for City that security was so lax that passwords etc. were not changed when staff left. Over the past 20+ years any decent IT company would have been telling customers that they needed proper security for remote access using hardware tokens or latterly authentication apps on smartphones.
To be honest it was probably a good thing that it was only a scouting database that was illegally accessed and that caused a security review which presumably resulted in access being properly locked down.
I do agree the way it was handled was surprisingly low key - most dipper fans genuinely know nothing about it.

What he saw is not a big unknown factor though. He was spying on a training session and that's the bit against the laws. Any benefit gained is irrelevant.

No that's a very fair point, although I expect had he managed to just watch the first 5 minutes of the players doing stretching exercises before being rugby tackled and frog marched off it would have been laughed off as incompetence rather than how it has been!

May have been covered before but Wrexham finished 7th so did they have a claim for taking Soton's place? But the semi-finals had already taken place - a complete rat's nest of a situation.

I’ve just had another read about it, the two scouts who went to Liverpool used the credentials of Rob Newman who was a scout at City at the time. Micheal Edwards who was Liverpool’s head of performance and analysis at the time now hold the role of sporting director at Liverpool. Surely he should have been facing gross misconduct and losing his job, instead at Liverpool they promote people who cheat.

The FAs reasons for not investigating when this came to light in 2020 is because the clubs reaching a settlement and the time elapsed which was 7-8 years. Yet the PL can lay charges out on City which had occurred 14 years prior to when they charged City in 2023. What gives?

I think the 4pt deduction covers that. The EFL can argue they were kicked out of playoffs at the time the offence took place and the charge/appeal were determined. But had previous offences been considered a 4pt deduction would have been given which wouldn't have altered the playoffs in anyway.

Thats fraud

He was stood on private land. He shouldn't be there. The size of the fence is irrelevant when you trespass on private land.

"His car window was down so it's completely legal to rob the car radio". Or as I said earlier "her skirt was very short so..."

It's the same logic when trespassing. Just because you can physically get into somewhere, it doesn't mean you're permitted

I just can't get that irate or worked up about something I find relatively trivial.

They do this and worse all around the world. Go behind closed doors if it's top secret.

It's not the reason Boro went out, just like it's not the reason they beat Arsenal, good teams react to what is happening on the pitch, not what some 2 bit coach saw on his phone.

But Hull complaining that they had little time to prepare for new opponents is nonsense.
If they played in the world club cup and qualified for the knockout phase they would get less time to prepare for their opponents in the next round

FWIW, I believe he wasn't, he was outside the boundary.

That land is private land. It's not on the training facility itself but it's still considered private land and has signs. That's why he was removed.

Besides, that's not even that important. Staff members of other clubs cannot observe other clubs training sessions within 72 hours of a game unless invited. There's no asterisk in the rule to say it's fine if you're stood behind a fence.

Whilst that's probably true, why were Southampton spying on teams? They obviously feel it gains them an advantage. That's the point here.

It's impossible to quantify or prove how much it affected the game. It certainly would have disrupted boro's preparations to a degree.

What's not impossible to prove is Southampton broke the rules that are in place to stop games being compromised before it kicks off.

It’s like they qualified for the next round before knowing their opponents.

They’ll have had staff analysing both teams.
