It doesn't matter if only one came in for Elano(and I do believe a club in Spain and Italy made enquires and were rebuffed), the fact is, if Hughes wanted rid so desperately, he'd have offered him out on loan and put him in the reserve team. Neither has happened.
So, that's one-a-piece for both sides of the argument, isn't it?
Elano's a good squad player - so the only reason I would see to get rid of him is if he was still causing trouble. He's obviously not, and has accepted that with Stevie Ireland in the form he's in, and Hughes' penchant for playing two more "solid" midfielders, he's going to struggle to start week in and week out.
My criticism of Elano came directly from his interview which was totally naive and unnecessary, and the word of a certain player who basically stated that Elano was piss taker in training and was trying desperately along with a few others to undermine him.
Frankly, the debates about whether he's world class or not seem pretty pointless to me. If Elano were THAT good, with all reports of him being unsettled, at least one top top club would've taken a punt on him. Arsenal, for example, would have found it much easier to do business with us over him than over Stevie...
