I don't get them to be honest - while I wouldn't say they're shite, they're not that inspiring. In fact I'd go as far as to say their songs tend to be downright boring.

Just watching One Day Like This and Garvey sounds flat and out of tune. Chris Martin may be a knob but Coldplay will piss all over these later.
hahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahhhahhahaahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhhahahahahhahahahahahhahahaaha
i think he's right

i've tried to like them, but the sum total is three tracks

Well I don't think hes right. I went to see them live a few weeks back (Elbow) and the place was rocking. I happen to possess a couple of Coldplay albums too. Personally I would never compare the two, however its all about opinions and taste......They are 20 years together this month and it's starting to come good for them. Just a couple of weeks ago they blew The Kings Of Leon off the stage at Slane, never seen Coldplay live simply because I couldn't be arsed :-)

You're right - it is all about opinions and perhaps it is unfair to compare the two as we're not talking similar types of music but like the other poster said, I too have tried to get into them and they just don't do it for me. They've been around for 20 years but it took them until 2007 to make that breakthrough. I think it's fair to assume that there's a reason why it took so long for them to "make it". I much prefer Doves who for years have been making consistently good records.

Elbow were magnificent last night - not many have the charisma of Garvey to have a crowd that size in the palm of his hand.

A much deserved triumph.

I agree mate, thought they were brilliant. Guy Garvey is a great front man, and Elbow are one of the least self indulgent bands out there, self effacing is more like it. Self indulgence was Chris Martin prancing about the Pyramid stage last night.

I can understand that Elbow aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I like them, I think they're a clever, subtle band. They don't have an ego and their interaction with the crowd is great to see. ''One Day Like This'' is one of the best tracks to close a set to. I thought they'd be good at Glastonbury and they delivered.
