Electric cars

If I was to get one I certainly wouldn’t buy one, the arse has dropped out of the market apparently VW have closed their factory in summer for an extra week, the depreciation is vey high on them. Have a look at VW electric transporter they can’t give them away as you’d be lucky to get 60 mile on a full charge, I saw a good quote EV will be the Betamax of cars once they crack hydrogen. They are a good idea but until they can match the range of fossil fuel ones in our weather condition, remember all these mileages etc are done in perfect conditions like California etc, not when it’s freezing over here.

Mazda says hello
I Know about Mazda and I knew someone would be pedantic and point a finger at them. (I think NSU also produced one iirc so ner to that!)
What I was referring to was the motor industry as a whole not adopting the Wankel engine.
I hope that clears things up.

NSU had major problems with seals failing on their rotary engines.
I think Mazda had similar problems in the early days but resolved them to a degree. However the fuel consumption figures on rotary engine Mazda cars was poor compared to other cars of the same size. - Lovely high revving engines though IIRC.

Well, I wasn't being 'pedantic', merely playful, ;) but the main reason manufacturers haven't adopted the Wankel engine widescale is down to their lower fuel efficiency and emissions are higher than standard ICE.

Fair comment.
So a turbine engine in a car is waaay less efficient than a modern Gas turbine in a power station, which is all I really wanted to know.

You get much more bang for your buck, sure, but it uses so much more fuel. So really it becomes a question of comparisons; which is better, use lots of fuel but get there much quicker, hence making a saving, or save on better fuel efficiency but get to your destination slower, and it requires burning more fuel over a longer period of time. Kind of like swings and roundabouts really.

The Rotary engines are a nightmare, compression loss being a huge issue and you basically have to hand hold them all the time. Great performance-wise, but shit economy and really, really temperamental, you can see why nobody really bothers.
