Electric cars

I think the new MG4 EV could be as much as a game changer as the Tesla Model 3. Price starts from about £26K (£300/mth PCP) with reasonable spec and range. The premium pricing of manufacturers such as VW Group are going to start seeing price competition. Think the MG EV4 is about £8k cheaper than ID.3 for similar car.

It could wirelessly charge? just like your phone does. Will probably give us cancer or summit though.
Theoretically possible, but only tested on a small scale. As it stand a commercial non-starter as it would be prohibitively expensive to retrofit on existing infrastructure.

Interesting, I was looking at the ID3 as possible (I do like VW's having run one for years without any trouble) but they are pricy.

Still slowly thinking about the EV scheme (Octopus) at work but I'll need some education all round on this front.
I do need a car. The ex took the spare one I was using back as her's (the old family VW I mentioned above) was took expensive for her to fix.
I'm not desperate for a car (I live next to a train and tram stop) but means I have to walk a few miles to see the kids and I want to start visiting places in the UK this year. Feel a little landlocked.

Will step up researching all this next month.

I don’t think they are going to be prohibitively expensive but they may be. The Electreon project in Sweden cost around £10m to retrospectively fit charging cable under existing tarmac. That was a little over a mile. They reckon you can fit a mile a night. It’s not like we aren’t always digging up roads anyway. For comparison turning 19 miles of the M6 into a smart motorway cost just under £14m per mile. Yes crazy amounts of money but not out of kilter.

You only really need to “electrify” the slow Lane on motorways. Charge your car at night to 80% (for optimal battery life) then if you get a bit low on juice get in the slow lane and get some extra charge on longer journeys. We only need do the motorway infrastructure.

Why not build an electric car like the scalextric cars have an electric charge on the road, so change and ride at the same time

Because they don't need to charge constantly. Plus as batteries improve you'll end up being able to drive hundreds if not thousands of miles on a single charge.

There is always talk of improving battery tech, but only a finite supply of resources to make them from.

The only way to make EV's more efficient is to ask them to do less work in order to extend their range. That would mean making them lighter, slower and having less non-essential accessories.
