electricity bill help

the previous tenant didn't pay any bills according to my daughter, thanks maybe that's something to look in to
From my experience it most likely is mate, one previous address, I’d left some 3 years before, I got letters from a debt recovery service for the bill the Tennant after me failed to pay, the pissing around I had to do to prove to British Gas I didn’t have any access to the property once I’d left was ridiculous , they hadn’t even bothered to contact me before, just passed it straight to the debt recovery service, absolute cunts they are mate, keep an eye on them, don’t trust them, and don’t accept their word on anything, all they want is the money.

just so you’re aware, I only became aware of mine when I’d left about £20 on the meter, went on holiday for the week leaving only the fridge freezer on, and being in debt by the time I got back, they denied it at first but eventually admitted my meter was set up for the previous tenants debt, they said they owed me about £600 but would settle it when I left the address.

When I came to leave, they denied any such conversation or incident ever took place , these are the type of people your daughter is dealing with .

I'm currently in dispute with my electricity supplier in rented accommodation in similar circumstances. One thing to check Is the tariff and storage heaters. She should be on an economy 7 meter I believe and check the times the storage heaters come on and go off. They drain electricity like its going our of fashion and If the timings are incorrect especially given they should be in winter mode allowing for the clocks changing it could explain high usage at peak times. They should only switch on and off at off-peak times so you take advantage of the cheaper rate. Mines been in dispute since April last year though and I haven't paid a penny since i moved in. Mine was on an estimated reading though and they wanted nearly 2k for april-september! You can refer it to the ombudsman if you don't get a resolution. Good luck

The meter might have two readings. One for normal and one for economy 7.
The starting readings or end of month readings could be mixed up.

If its economy 7 it must have two readings.
At my daughters flat you had to scroll through the buttons to get the two readings.

No point talking in terms of cash, talk in terms of Kwh. how much has she used? Average bills (electric and gas) per month will be £200 a month so it's not far off what I'd expect but really need those Kwh numbers first

Not doubting you mate , £200 a month is crazy to me, my usage on pay as you go meters is only about £60 a month.

Her kwh is very high, as the company said twice what they would expect a high useage household would use, that is the problem, she has a 2 bed flat, out all day at work, over at ours most weekends, and she is very careful

Is it one of these Economy 7s?

I was on Economy 7 when I lived in an apartment and I got fucked all over the show by it and ended up owing over a grand in the 6 months I was there.

And this is from a single person who was out at work all day and it wasn’t winter.
