Electricity Bills

Do you have a canabis plantation ? :)

Phone them up with your reading and cancel your direct debit. Tell them what you have done and say you will set up another DD when they give you a revised bill on your actual usage.

we have pre pay gas & electric, we pay slightly more per unit but we can manage the bills better

we have a 2 bed house and missus is in most of time with washing machine & tumble dryer on most days...she has at least 2 tv's on at any one time, my kids leave their xbox, tv, etc on when they go out and i leave the PC on pretty much 16hrs a day every day

we use £35 a month in electric

Ive got a prepay card and would expect £30 a month to cover my lecky for a month for a three bedroom mid terrace house so cant understand how a two bedroom flat could be near £100 per month

Me neither, hence my shock at their 'estimate'. By that logic a 2 bed flat, with the occupants out most of the day at work the annual electricty bill would be £1200! who estimates these bills!

Dick Turpin, or as he now prefers "call me Dave"

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Maybe your paying a debt from a previous tennant ? have you checked as from when they have you down from living there ? you also say its a flat any chance that one of the neighbours(if its a few together) could have set up a syphon off your supply ?

other than that inform your supplier your taking the matter up with ofgem, they will soon sort it out for you

Didn't know in addition to running the country he was also working at eon, surprised the daily mail isn't in meltdown over this, thanks for the info.

don't even get me started on Eon, we moved house and then they immediately slapped an 800 quid bill on us, and were adamant we'd used nearly 2 years worth of electricity in 2 weeks!

Currently rent a flat in Whalley Range,out all day so the only thing drawing any electricity during peak hours is the fridge. Had a £50 per month Direct Debit set up with Eon. In the evening the telly is seldom on, all I have on the majority of the time is the spotlights over the Breakfast Bar, the laptop and the stereo. Upstairs is in complete darkness, I haven't even used a storage heater yet despite the drop in climate. Occasionally the oven,grill and microwave....washing machine. You get the picture.

Yet Eon are claiming I owe them over £170 and have increased my Direct Debit to £97 per month to cover the loss. To say I'm fucking gobsmacked is an understatement. My Dad has a three bedroom house near Warrington and doesn't even pay that amount a month???

Do Eon have a bad reputation with regard to this sort of thing? Any ideas or similar stories from other's would be welcomed. I'm holding off putting the storage heaters on for as long as possible due to this.
We don't know what tariff you're on so it's hard to say whether you're being ripped off, but that doesn't sound unreasonable to me. We only pay about £30 a month for a 1-bed flat but everything we have is low-energy apart from the shower, and we have gas hot water & central heating. If you don't have gas yours will be pretty pricey.

spotlights = 50W each, six of them soon adds up
PC = 300W
laptop = 80W (can be more when charging)
big CRT TV = 300W
big LCD TV = 150W (plus digibox, DVD player, etc.)
hifi system = 200W
separates system = 600W
fridge = about £10+ a month, IF it's modern and A rated
washing machine / tumble dryer should cost about 30-50p per use
kettle is about 10-20p per boil or more (and soon adds up)
electric shower is about 10-20p per minute (that definitely soon adds up)
850W output microwave and electric oven is about 3p per minute

"Peak hours" only matters if you have Economy 7 with two separate meter readings and "off peak hours" is only from 2am til 6am anyway which is when you should be switching on your storage heaters.

Also this.

I've had good success with registering with a fake name and then legging it when I move out. Saved us a grand, that trick.

If you're not tied in to a contract just change supplier - they can only charge you for what you've used then.
