Manchester City is interested in improving their defense next season and they are targeting Porto’s Mangala. The French defender had a strong season that earned him a selection from Deschamps for the World Cup. The negotiation could start in the coming days, in the meantime City has identified Mangala as a target.

-Di Marzio

Ground breaking stuff from Di Marzio there. City are interested in Mangala?! Surely not.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

True, it seems like old news, but Di Marzio usually acts on new/relevant info he gets so it could mean proper talks are planned soon. Rather than all the Daily Star type speculative crap.

Oh go then, i'll say it again... Godin:)

Trade Negredp for Godin

I dont understand this obsession with Godin, or for that matter Suggestions about Miranda. undoubtedly both are good defenders but we are looking for BPDs with ability to play a high line. Atletico were a defensive team that was gelled together really well. Thats why those two appear world class (system plus teamwork). I think they will struggle here

Good point i think the way atletico ate organised tactically makes them look better than they are vica versa with our defence where the full backs constantly push on always makes our defence look suspect.thats why we want two destroyers i.e fernandinho and fernando to protect the back two.

Exactly, at the end of the article he says the negotiations could happen in the coming days.

Don't know what he thinks he's been told but we're agreed in principle with Porto for Mangala/Fernando already. Maybe Mangala has finally given us the thumbs up so we'll be going back to Porto to finalise everything..?

Well, its the Daily Star but nice to read a positive rumour....

Man City set to beat Chelsea and Man Utd to £36m Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala

MANCHESTER CITY are set to win the race to sign Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala ahead of Chelsea and Manchester United.

City failed with a bid to sign the French international in January.

And although City enjoyed Premier League and Capital One Cup success, manager Manuel Pellegrini is eager to bolster his defensive ranks ahead of the new season.

According to reports in Portugal, City have agreed to activate Mangala's £36m release clause after reviving their interest in the powerful centre-back.

Chelsea and United are also interested in the 23-year-old - who is currently representing France at the World Cup - however City remain firm favourites to clinch his signature.

Spanish giants Barcelona withdrew their interest after baulking at Mangala's price-tag.

Having signed Mangala for a relatively scant £6m fee from Standard Liege in 2011, Porto are set to make a huge profit if City conclude a deal for their star man.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

"reports from Portugal" so there might be something in this after all. £36m is lot of money for him. But I guess Txiki knows what he is doing.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

What, no "Would rather play anywhere but City" jibe? Boyhood Chelsea fan? City only at the front of the queue because we're offering him 500 grand a week?
