Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that Eliaquim Mangala is already a Manchester City player.

The Porto defender has been on the verge of a £32million move to the Etihad Stadium for some time, with reports on the continent claiming that negotiations have been complicated by a third-party ownership issue.

France Football have said that the versatile centre-back had already agreed a deal with City following his return from the World Cup in Brazil this summer, but, two sports investment funds relinquished their interests.

In a television interview before the Community Shield, however, Pellegrini named Mangala among his list of players recruited this summer, alongside Bacary Sagna, Willy Caballero and the the 23-year-old’s former Porto team mate Fernando.

‘The players we have brought in – Fernando, Caballero, Sagna and Mangala – will help the team,’ Pellegrini told BT Sport.

Old news as many on here have known for weeks ;.)

It is the first time Pellegrini has confirmed it himself. In the press conference for the game against Arsenal, he said he wouldn't talked Mangala, because he wasn't a Man City player.

It's certainly not the announcement to the Portuguese stock exchange we were expecting! Wonder when there'll be some reaction from the club(s).

Good to have it confirmed by the man in charge though.

Reaction: (AFTER THE GAME)

City manager Manuel Pellegrini is eager to push through the signing of defender Elaquim Mangala from Porto before the league season begins at Newcastle.

"I hope so," said the Chilean. "Maybe we need some papers but we continue our interest in the player who wants to come so we'll see what happens.

"We need to demonstrate from the beginning why we want to title this year and repeat last year. We have a chance to do it and we have a good squad."
