Now that Otamendi is moving to Valencia in the summer, I wonder if Porto will decide to keep Mangala rather than sell him?

If us or another club decides to pay his release clause then I guess they wouldn't have much choice.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

If we dont get this guy then what are realistic options for a top class left-sided centre back ??

I don't think there's many options at all - not for our required standard.

I would like to sign Mangela - he has everything required to be a world class centre back.

A partnership of Kompany and Mangela could potentially be the best in Europe.

If we can't sign Mangela, I would like to see us stick with Nastasic instead of signing another left sided centre half.

the problem with Nasty is, he isn't comfortable in this system.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Im sure hes got great potential but he isn't the best or only centre back in Europe! Ranocchia, Hummels, Subotic, Laporte, Sakho, Ogbonna or Koscielny would all be great additions to the squad or maybe we could give Rekik a shot. He seems hugely overpriced for a centre back for me!

You'd say that, but the rags spent £30m on camelgob and that did them a load of good for years.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Yeah but Mangala isn't a 30 odd million player yet he could be, but at minute he simple isn't, he is only afew years younger then the people on my list most of which would be half the price. Agger was 20mil rated player awhile back how much would he cost now? A loss of form and confidence can seriously harm careers and lets be honest he might not suit the EPL. CAMEL GOB cost big money and was a similar age but was already proven in the league and there was no FFP around! Just think its a massive gamble to make on potential.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

A lot of the people on your list are not nearly of the same standard though and have very little potential in comparrison, or play for teams that would never sell them to us. Rannochia is an absolute train wreck of a defender who Inter are struggling to give away, Ogbonna is 5th choice CB at Juve, Subotic has been injured all year and neither Sakho or Koscielny would be available (or good enough). That only leaves Hummels and Laporte on your list, I have to admit I have no idea who Laporte even is, but Hummels would cost a fortune and has more than the odd howler in him and very little potential for improvement.

That's the reason for Mangala, his upside is immense. He is just about the perfect physical specimen, already pretty tidy on the ball and actually seems to have the capacity to use his brain (unlike some physical defenders, cough Micah cough). The price on him is because he is the most desired young CB in world football, so they can set whatever price they want and they know someone will pay it, if not us, then Chelsea, PSG, Monaco, etc etc

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Ranocchia a train wreck?! Hes probably Inters best defender an Italian international and is only 25! Sakho and Koscielny are about as available as Mangala is and as good or better in my opinion. Laporte is at Bilboa he is pure potential a regular starter at 19 and has been linked with Barca and Utd. My point is Mangala is a good defence but we could sign say Chiellini who is the finished article for much less. I think we should push the boat out of Koscielny in summer if Arsenal come up short again this year he is prob the best defender in the apart from our Captain. Both would be 28 at the start of next season coming into their peak easily the best centre back pairing for the next 5 years with no gamble or risk and he would cost a lot less then Mangala.

Do you mind not calling camel gob by his first name. Frankly, it`s stomach churning.
