Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

This is fantastic news on three levels. One, he’s a fucking great player, genuinely my favourite non-City player in the league this season. Two, it means we can attract the next best thing even without the Guardiola effect. Three, there’s not a cat in hell’s fucking chance on earth, he’s choosing City, without serious serious confidence we’re about to be cleared of - at the very least - the vast majority of charges especially the serious ones.

If Maresca and Anderson are announced soon, we’re cleared in my opinion.
The number one factor is normally terms and conditions. If you satisfy what a player wants and agree to pay what the selling club wants a player will sign. Pep was the icing on the cake but you will find what a player was paid and for how long was of greater importance at the cool light of dawn.

Maybe a bit of courtesy relation was built when we sold them McAtee at a reasonable price and loaned out Ortega.

Agree and think there might even be someone else going from City (eg Lewis) when Anderson goes to City.

My sense is..
- Forest like doing business with City but not with United (having been messed about by them)
- Forest don’t need to sell but will do at £100m+. Our pitch to new players is we’ll enable them to get to the top
- City recognise that you’re better off paying £100m for someone brilliant than £75m for someone OK

There’s probably a will on all sides to make this happen although obviously the numbers will have to work.

I like the sound of that. If we can involve a player going the other way too, hopefully that will bring the cash fee down a bit.

Majority of this forum were powerwanking themselves silly over Reijnders last summer. He was the answer to all our midfield concerns according to this forum, even moreso than Anderson is this summer.
Meh. Some players especially from different leagues take a season to adjust. I'd rather hope for a better second season than cut bait and sell him at a huge loss.

There most probably is but we aren't forking out £100m to then be relegated and forced to sell for a fraction. If anything we'd be harvesting cash prior to the outcome if there were any genuine concerns
That's not the way it works, or at least not the way Juventus handled it. They kept all their key players under contract and loaned them out for a season or two.

His grandmother and mother being rather fond of the Blues rather than the reds looks to be a big factor for him

Probably THE most important transfer this summer.

Everything else is underneath this in importance, and while we should do them and figure our what Maresca wants (GK issues, defenders, winger, strikers etc), we must get Anderson, everything else will be less of a problem for us this season with him first.

Just a query. There's nothing in your actual quote that indicates that either one side or the other, blue or red, is favoured by said family.
You must have some other reason for saying that?

I read elsewhere that his grandmother was a big City fan and him and his mother had us as there second team after Newcastle because of it.

Yep absolutely, he's the golden goose. If we would have had him this season we'd have won the league in April.

That was 20 years ago mate and not entirely accurate, virtually all of their foreign big names and some domestic stars left on permanent transfers - zlatan, zambrotta, cannavaro, thuram, mutu, emerson. Additionally, they weren't signing players right up to that verdict. To suggest we'd spend £80m on Guehi/semenyo then £90-ish on Anderson on the cusp of the decision isn't realistic when you consider the finances involved in today's game and the catastrophic loss of revenue.

I'm a yes on this one and will be gutted if he goes to the rags.

As an unbiased advisor you would probably tell him to go to the rags. He would be their only decent player alongside the ageing rat. So guaranted game time. With us he has to fight for a spot. But it could go sour there again as they need more quality all over the squad.

Who’s he really fighting against for a place in our team ? Just Gonzalez really and If Gonzalez stays he’s more likely going to player in rotation with Rodri.
