I don’t think he’s as positionally indisciplined as Gerrard. He was a brilliant footballer but a major reason why Liverpool didn’t win the league when he was there. Constantly going missing as a centre midfielder chasing the ball but not clever enough to play as a ten. He had a brilliant shot and an excellent passer and crosser but never really made any position his own.

I'd even argue kalvin was further on when we signed him, an England regular and great prospect but I'm just seeing near and tidy, that doesn't cut it. I'm in the Adam Wharton camp, see the pass very quickly and would suit us better.

My thoughts before I started watching every game he plays even for England of the ball he is what we need Wharton on the ball is far better but those quick one touch passes he gives away a lot of them which would put us in big trouble in transition! Philips Wise I watched him thought he was ok!

Phillips is an isolated case, he compeltley capitulated under expectations maybe moreso than any footballer in the last decade (maybe Dele Ali?), he left his boyhood club under a big price tag, to cover for Rodri who had established himself as the single best DM in world football and he failed...both mentally and physically

Anderson has already made a big money move, £35mil for a 20 year old has big expectation and hes grabbed it with both hands and excelled in every single metric. If he joins he comes into a team with Bernardo likely gone, Rodri in his last days and Nico G whos still learning his own game

Phillips form even in his loan moves shows how isolated his downfall was

He could go like Phillips, or he could go like Rice, given how hes become a true leader at Forest i think the latter is more likely

Anderson is completely different to Phillips imo.

Phillips was too passive when not in position. He would not make enough of an effort to win a ball 5 yards away. So was bypassed and lost any 50:50s and pretty soon his confidence was totally gone with his passing game going missing on top of that.

Anderson seems a terrier in terms of chasing and winning the ball and seems well able to keep his chin up and use the ball well in tight situations.

That said I think Anderson is super cocky for what he does (like Bellingham) and is not a guaranteed success. Plus he clogs up our midfield options once Rodri and Doku return.

Although (scratching chin) dropping Rodri to CB....? Hmm....!
