Not for me. Yaya was a colossus when at his peak but didn’t carry the other 10 players on his back every game for years.

Energy , high work rate , calm under pressure complete package. This comparison hasn’t been made yet but watching how he covered everywhere against us.

He reminded me of Kante, aggressive in a tackle won his duels and was everywhere. Exactly what we need in midfield.

With these new Pep Lijnders / Pep Tactics. That leaves the midfield exposed. It’s why I’m guessing we are going for Anderson over Wharton. Anderson has bundles of energy and a high work rate.

That team with the talent they had were a massive failure and trying to get Scholes Gérard lampard Beckham and later Joe Cole into the midfield 4 was a big reason, that and taking 'stars' to tournaments when clearly not fit.

Very impressed with his physicality and tenacity to win the ball. High energy in both winning the ball back and then starting attacks or dictating play.

Would be the perfect foil for Rodri / Nico and our own version of Declan Rice. Foden, Cherki, Reijnders would all love him.

Wharton is more creative and silky but we lack that no nonsense, all round ability that Anderson has more.

They would compliment each other perfectly. Money notwithstanding, I'd do everything we can to bring both of them in. When English players come along that you can genuinely build a team around, we should be all over them. It saves us always walking the homegrown tightrope, where we're contemplating 60-odd million for average players because we need the numbers and only have homegrown spots left.

But yeah, if we can only bring one in, it has to be Anderson for me.

Hardly a successful era for England. The golden generation were a flop at major tournaments.
