Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter

There's some triggering about the purchase on twitter.

You're portrayal of it seems to be confirmed. The trumpers are celebrating wildly whilst there's some grown panty wetters doing the opposite.
It will be interesting to see what he does with it.
Violate terms and services — get banned.

Don’t — don’t.

The “panty-wetting” “perpetually offended” are IMO those who can’t grasp this simple concept.

If Trump comes back it will be because T & S changed (including the penalties for violating them) and if he stays it will be because he didn’t violate whatever new ones there are.

My problem there, here and on every social media platform is unenforced T & S. Enforce them — including against me should I violate them — and I, nor anyone else, should have an issue. Quit if you think they should change.

Never been about “free speech.”

I imagine 99.99999% of users will notice no difference whatsover.

If Harry Cole is in favour, I’m not. The fat prick*.

*I added that just because I cannot stand the **** (my opinion of him) and I believe I can get away with it because he is an overweight knobhead. Just a personal opinion and may not be one of the site owners, who I don’t know … maybe.

Finally got a Twitter account three weeks ago and just deactivated. Sure I'll be missed.

Not really sure why people continue to buy into his bullshit but the fact that he's a twat combined with me being over a decade late to the party made it a pretty easy decision.

My Netflix account went out the window two days ago as well. Is this what those people are referring to when they complain about cancel culture?

On Twitter, Reddit and a lot of other sites you're either with the flow or against it. On sites like Twitter and Reddit your comments can be hidden just from having a different point of view to the 'flow'.

That's why I still think forums like this one are so good. You can actually see a bit of back and forth from people with different opinions. Then if it gets particularly bad the mods can step in.
This really is the only thing close to Social Media that I’m on. Gave up Facebook years ago and do nothing else.
Even the few WhatsApp groups I’m in, do my head in when everyone gets on a topic. I usually put it on mute until everything blows over.

And the **** thinks he shouldn’t have to pay a penny.
Well why did he pay it then? Bezos and Gates get away with paying virtually zero tax by creative accounting, Musk just paid the bottom line. Musk doesn't draw a salary from Tesla/Spacex so unless he cash's in shares, he doesn't have a taxable income, which is what happened when he paid over 10bill early this year

The onus is on you to do that though and people dont like to take personal responsibility for that and want to be outraged and get people cancelled.

There will always be a delicate line to what is acceptable and what isn’t, but that’s down to Twitter to decide. I’m not in those spheres, so don’t really care what Musk does with it.

Getting people cancelled isn't a thing.

Cancelled is an American slang term that millennial Americans used when cutting off a friend.

You can withdraw support from somebody but you can't really force others to do so.

People claiming to have been cancelled for their views are usually just getting the consequences of their bad behaviour and misconduct.

Cancel culture lives in the same distortion of reality as PC gone mad and "Woke culture".

Twitter is what you want it to be.

I have a no following dickheads policy. I have to actively seek out these spats and cranks, which I do sparingly.

I'm fortunate (/unfortunate?) to have a pretty large following on there and honestly I don't have to seek out these spats and cranks. I can tweet the most inane, harmless thing and be inundated with utter shite, and I defo don't follow dickheads either. It can be very tiring. I'm not complaining, but just pointing out that people's experiences wildly differ. I'm a white, straight bloke in my 30s too. It's meant to be relatively easy for me. Can't imagine what it's like just being a woman on there, never mind openly gay etc.

Twitter is a basket case, loses money, makes money for a couple of years and goes onto lose it again.

I can only assume he secured ~50% in loans and leveraged buy out loans due to the fact that Twitter has such a mass of users (and that he put up ~50%) that it probably wont depreciate too much.

Another interesting thing is Musk's interesting past with shutting down those who have criticised him online, plus being aggressive to unfriendly reporters. Wonder how his new free speech drive will tie in with them.

His money, but it does seem to be an odd thing to spend tens of billions of dollars on. I suspect most people in his situation would be looking to improve mankind , invest in world wide renewables, feed the starving bring water to those in need, ie gain satisfaction in your lifetime that you had done something exceptionally good and left a legacy. Let's be honest in 100 yrs or even 50 or 10 years hardly anyone will remember he spent billions buying a social media forum that to most people was working just fine before he bought it. I don't do twitter, seems an irrelevance to me and my life, doubt this will change that feeling.
