Genuine, decent investors bought Tesla shares not just pension funds (which still affects us)
Is there anything shareholder's can do to stop this idiot ruining them financially?

The problem is that journalists/ journalism are terms used to describe a broad church of folk ranging from actual serious investigative journalists to the paid shills acting as publicists for vested interests.It was happening before, but that was fine then though. Human nature being what it is, we all tend to regard the ones we agree with as the legit journalists. All most of us mortals can do is turn to another news source we prefer, but if you are rich and powerful like musk or Murdoch you can use your pennies to shape journalism to suit yourself.

There is a big overlap with musk fans and crypto bros. It's the perfect storm of right wing politics and grift. It's not fraud but its as close as you can get legally. Lots of people will lose big time, it's already happened and its only going to get worse.
What surprises me us how Musks reputation still stands strong among these people even though they stand to lose so much.

It’s not exactly unheard of, and his behaviour has directly caused these issues.
For starters, his decision to split the shares in 3 is something that works directly against the existing shareholders as it makes prices much more volatile.
Second, he keeps lying about how he’s not going to sell any more off, and then the price crashes when it comes out.
He’s sold 11% of his stake since April.
Lastly they have a pretty good case against him for awarding himself the most insane bonus/pay package ever put together, $50 Billion last year.
