Wow.
Maybe sooner.....
Looking at Arsenal and United's struggles after very successful managers who were there for a long time, left, for me shows that maybe the continental approach where instead you have a head coach who doesn't stay for too long (normally five seasons max) with a director of football, and more people who make decisions behind the scenes, is the more sensible approach? Real Madrid have a high turnover when it comes to coaches, but they've continuously been successful, Bayern had a wobbly patch where they missed out on the CL, but they recovered quickly, and are doing well under their interim coach, Juve have won 6 league titles in a row, first under Conte, then Allegri, and possibly now Sarri. We've been told that stability is everything, and having a manager who calls all the shots, and is in for the long haul is the best approach. For United it definitely worked for Ferguson, the results speak for themselves, but look where they are now. Arsenal missed out on top 4 once under Wenger, their fans would snap your hand off if you gave them that consistency now. It makes me think about City post Pep. We have smart people in charge, and I don't think we'll have the problems Arsenal and United have faced. I'm doubtful whether we'll hit the heights we have done in the last 2 seasons, but that's a very high bar, and it's no shame if we don't meet it. It will probably be the same for Liverpool after Klopp.
Not sure toxic is the correct word. They've certainly been in decline since moving to the Emirates, but I consider it a comparatively benign place for players, and the owners have shown scant regard for the fans; indeed, there is a school of thought that the board was moved more by the empty seats than any disquiet from those few occupied. They're a club that has yet to find an identity since moving, and they arguably need a manager now who can help them find that.
