Emile Mpenza

Vassell was also a decent acquisition for us at the time. Cost-effective, hard-working, never moaned and (after forming a decent partnership with the traitorous Andrew Cole) was played criminally out of position when we were desperate on the left. That left-sided problem was never solved until the arrival of Martin Petrov.

I will never forget this goal by him

Came to us too soon, could of been a star. Bags of talent.

He was already a huge player when he signed for us i remember seeing him play for Belgium in Major Tournaments with his brother! He was a star signing for us when we got him and he was about 28

-- Mon Aug 06, 2012 4:49 pm --

Mpenza, Bianchi, Samaras, Vassell - Sven was spoiled for choice

bianchi was decent 6 yard man but it just didnt happen for him

Tbh Bianchi missed loads from close range he missed about 6 from close range in 1 match when Spurs put us out of the cup at home

Actually, he was on trial this summer at the newly promoted Belgian club Waasland-Beveren, which is only 5 miles from where I live :)
But due to his financial demands and a lack of condition they couldn't/didn't offer him a contract.
He mades the wrong choices after his spell at City, that's for sure.

Didn't he go to Qatar for the money? Always a bad decision....

No he came from Qatar to City. Then he went to Sion in Switzerland (decent decision, but very small league) and Nefti Bakou (purely for the money, wrong decision imo).

So he left Hamburg for money in Qatar then came to at the time a small team which is what City were then he went to Plymouth and Sion and then thought he wasn't on enough money and left for money again haha

I think you mean Caicedo?

Wasn't Mpenza a twin? I remember an Mbo Mpenza who was regarded as the better of the two.

Im sure Emile was the good one and Mbo was just the older one

Good record for the Swiss side FC Sion after he left us - 21 goals in 31 games.

Quality player i remember a goal he scored at Newcastle that kept us in the Prem and at the end of that season Barton had the cheek to say that he had kept City in the Premier League that season even tho Mpenza hit i think 7 goals towards the end

Without Barton we would have got relegated.

Mpenza was a god 2001 at Schalke. Him and Ebbe Sand had been one of the best striking duos in the Bundesliga in that decade and ever played for Schalke. Thought that he will become a european star player. But to be honest, he never grew up, You need some brains to become a big player.

Without Mpenza we would have got relegated my point was Barton saying that in the first place was out of order and untrue Mpenza scored the vital goals

A very good stop gap signing and who scored a couple of vital goals which kept us up.

A good goal against Newcastle not the important one tho

How come Sven never played him, he scored in the Fuham game and then against Newcastle,I also think he started in the next two home games where we won but then was dropped for the Chelsea game for the Greek god and we lost 6-0 and Mpenza never played again.

Newcastle away late winner for a 0-1 win, pretty much kept us up that season. We went fucking mental in the away end when he scored that!

I was on the very back row of the City section for that game and have the photo to prove it. Travelled 6,000 miles r/t to see MJ to Needles, then bang. Worth every yard of the journey.
