Emile Mpenza

His goals in the final few games of the 06/07 season, single handedly kept us up! Wasnt the greatest striker but he was one who put in 110%.

Defiantly, my memory of his is he liked to score in the North East and like you said those goals kept us up!

I liked him. A ray of sunshine in an otherwise poor team.

Worked hard even though you wouldn't blame him for not trying with the poor service he received from the rest of his team mates and the fact that he seemed to be constantly carrying injuries into games.

He was about 30 when he signed for us and came after many people had said he was finished after he bizarrely signed a big money deal in the middle east somewhere after having a stunning few years in Germany. He wanted to prove he wasn't finished and quite possibly saw keeping us up as a big 'fuck you' to the pundits in his home nation & Germany. I loved him, still do.

Currently on trial with Turkish second division side Göztepe. He's nearly mid-30s now so not really surprising he isn't attracting many suitors, he did well in Switzerland after he left us.

Quality signing, Pearce's finest after Joe Hart. Mpenza's goals were arguably some of the most important in the club's recent history.

Newcastle away late winner for a 0-1 win, pretty much kept us up that season. We went fucking mental in the away end when he scored that!
