Emiliano Sala - Cardiff suing Nantes for £100m (P 49)

From what I can see, Cardiff haven't refused to pay any of the transfer fee and are just waiting until the search is completed, etc. Nantes are well within their rights to ask for the first instalment but fucking hell, it's only a couple of weeks since the deal went through. They could've held off broaching it for the time being surely.

Just imagine however that they sold their star striker because they needed to and they need the 1st instalment to stave off the tax man from shutting them down or to meet the cut off date to prevent an FFP sanction. Yes it doesn't look that good they way it has happened but it could be needs must.

Yeah, I get your point mate but why not just hold off while there's still an ongoing search for him? The business side of things can come later once the search is over.

Cardiff will not pay until his body has been found and a funeral taken place according to today’s Times.

What if his body is never found?

They were contractually obliged to make the first payment on Jan 26th and have not responded to any subsequent requests for payment.

This is why Nantes have started legal proceedings.

Cardiff's request for special dispensation during the transfer window and have their own extension was turned down flat by the PL/FA. Football business never stopped. Using my scenarios I can't see that UEFA would grant Nantes dispensation from FFP or a tax authority saying they'd let them off. The timing is not ideal but the show just rolls on I am afraid

Cardiff are totally in the wrong, if they kept to the contracted payment schedule, this wouldn't even be a story. Sooner the fuckers are relegated the better, although I might dislike them slightly less if they kick the dippers off the park like they tried to do to city.

Hope Nantes do take legal action and that someone at Cardiff fucked up and their isn't insurance

Who's saying anything about Cardiff being "let off" for the fee? I don't think that suggestion has been made anywhere. Plenty of clubs across Europe don't pay their transfer instalments on time, sometimes they're months overdue, yet here we have Nantes skriking about not being paid just 2 weeks after they sold their star player who is currently missing, presumed dead, for fuck's sake!

If it transpires that Cardiff do go on to refuse to pay all or part of the fee, then they can be called out on it, but complaining at this stage that Cardiff haven't responded (presumably because they have more pressing and sensitive matters to deal with in the meantime) smacks of that bitter wanker Rummenigge moaning that City weren't returning his calls when they wanted to buy Boateng off us.

It won't be as simple as that. Although it's fairly obvious what has happened, the legal position on his status as being alive or dead won't be finalised at present. Cardiff aren't saying they aren't going to pay, but until all the t's are crossed and the i's dotted, they won't be in a position to go through with it, and nor will the insurer who presumably are liable for making the payments. That's not at all unsurprising, this is a very unusual situation.

The insurers aren't really part of the transfer deal. If Cardiff have money in the bank they should pay the agreed sums on the agreed dates.

Is it possible that Cardiff are borrowing money for the payments against the player's value which sadly cannot now be done and therefore they don't have the said funds.

What a horrible situation.

Not necessarily. If there's insurance in place, then it would be for the insurers to pay, not the club. I'm not saying this is definitely the case, because it totally depends on the wording, but it's certainly possible, and if so, absolutely not a matter of the club just paying. I would not be at all surprised to learn that there is insurance against a transfer fee if something happens to the player before arrival.
