Encountering City players / staff in everyday life

Mike Summerbee at the Metropolitan in Withington/West Didsbury (depending on whether you own or rent). He was waiting for a takeaway.

Gerard Wiekens was sat next to me for a couple of games over the Christmas period a few years back, got quite the surprise when I sat down and he was there.

James Beattie. A few rags. Butt & Fletcher, neither as obnoxious as I would have hoped.

To be honest I can't think of any that have lived up to that arrogant footballer stereotype.

Steve Kinsey used to come into mums shop west Gorton all the time. Said his job was to challenge the defender for the high ball, not score the goals. Fancy dresser, very eighties.

Paul moulden - played against him and his school team in Manchester cup semi final. He scored screamer to win it 4:3. Bastard.

Steve lomas (and Wayne Harrison) played in Sunday league 16's final. Well beaten. ? Great mills. Programme for the game somewhere.

Darren beckford - 2 years ahead of me at school, fucking nob head, kicked me around the gym.

In the mid to late 60s I used to go in the City Social Club with my (now ex) husband who was friends with Roy Clarke and we met a lot of the team who came in after the match for a drink or two. That club was open 7 days a week and my ex frequented it when he wasn't working away. The days when the club encouraged the players to 'mingle' with the fans. As someone once said to me "City was and still is a family club and that was a tribute to Roy and Kathleen and their encouragement". Very true.

Before I got married I used to work not far from where George Best had his shop in Manchester and used to bump into him and Mike Summerbee occasionally.

Carlos Tevez on the train on the way back from a London game, I was in First class and had fallen asleep and woke up to see Carlos sitting opposite me........ closed my eyes again as I thought I was dreaming..... he had come down to speak to his relatives/friends who were sitting across from me. I got a photo of him and loaned him my newspaper!! He knew more English than he let on to the press!!

Paul Lake is one of my favourites, we had him down to talk to us at the Eccles Supporters Club and he was a real gentleman and an excellent speaker. One of my favourite photos of me is with Lakey and the trophies!!!

And of course there is the never to be forgotten experience of presenting Joe Hart with player of the month at Carrington when I saw quite a few of the players and was introduced to........ VINCENT KOMPANY......... and was totally tongue tied!! But Joe was lovely, a brilliant young man.

And, although he is not a player, I met Gary James at the Radio Manchester studios, another gentleman. (not brown nosing there Gary, just telling the truth).

Oh and I once had a conversation with Paul Dickov at Manchester Airport, but as I greeted him I had thought he was an acquaintance I knew from my teaching days and it was only when he responded to my 'hullo, how are you' that I realised he was actually Paul Dickov and I was apologising at the same time as saying 'oh my goodness, I've just realised that you are Paul Dickov' and as I was wearing a jacket with the City badge he just laughed and chatted for a couple of minutes to me!! Duh!!

The Goat in 2004 or 2005, TGI Fridays, Reading. My missus interrupted his quiet family birthday meal for an autograph, whereas I just waved.

Lots of random matt black cars roaring through the village with young tatooed lads at the wheel, lots of *that must be, errr, ummmm, whatsisname" in the restaurants

I designed a house that one of our lot bought.

Oh, and Mel Machin's dog used to shit outside my house, whilst he was 2nd in command to Ken Brown at Naarwich.

Off topic, Mylene Klass lived 2-3 doors down the road, but she never shat outside my house, AFAIK.

Met Uwe and Andy Morrison in Barcelona (Morrison the first time we played them in the CL and Uwe the second) - both top, top blokes

Bojinov was sound too.

Also met Petrov, bit sulky !

Ive seen micheal johnson pissed in the ritz, Joe Hart at Laundrette in chorlton having his sunday dinner, Edin Dzeko and johnny marr chatting to each other at starbucks on St Annes square.
Saw Gary Neville in the Trafford centre a few years ago, my mate said to him "Hiya Gary, how about an autograph?", he says "yeah sure", my mate signs a piece of paper and gives it to him "no problem, you look after that gary". Called us a pair of fucking wankers.
Saw the guy out of the Beautiful South the same day actually, he was buying a talking doll of Kenneth Williams in ModelZone. Weird.
