Send them into the army fir 6 months - teach them some discipline and respect - I really do think they should bring back national service

Err why dump society's scrotes on the British Army? It isn't the army's problem, they have their own challenges and shouldn't be wasting time training idiots who don't want to be there.

I just think the kind of kids that were rioting - usually on benefits might get a different perspective if they had the rigid discipline the armed forces provide and the team spirit. It just might turn them into something better? Any ex soldiers on here with a view point on national service? I'd like to hear it!

Without been rude, it's an idea that might sound a good one in theory but give it more than 30 seconds thought and there's all sorts of reasons why it isn't.

In any case, if we're still talking about the looting in Manchester a couple of years ago, from memory most of those convicted were certainly not kids and many of them were in full time employment.

I'm an ex soldier and the idea of serving alongside someone who is there for punishment doesn't fill me with pride or trust...so that's a no from me.

Judging by IDS's remarks regarding welfare he was assuming (Wrongly) that the poor were the only people rioting and that they could lose their benefits and lose their council homes.

What about the middle class home owners who were employed?

So people who don't mind looting when on benefits are going to do what exactly once they are stopped?
Those jailed have their benefits stopped, something you don't seem to have a problem with. Why not stop the benefits of those convicted but not jailed? The benefit system was intended for ne'er-do-wells.

Far too soft in that country of yours.

This post is self-defeated. When you are in prison, your food and shelter are provided.

The "bit of bollox" was tongue in cheek.

England riots: IDS considers ending looters' benefits

People convicted but not jailed for rioting could be stripped of benefits under plans considered by Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith.

He said he would prefer it that such an approach, if adopted, was carried out by the courts and not the government.

Currently, those jailed lose benefits but other punishments, like community service, do not prompt such a loss.

It comes as a split between Tories and Lib Dems has emerged over plans to evict families of rioters.

A wave of rioting, looting and arson spread from London to parts of the East and West Midlands, Merseyside, Bristol, Manchester and Gloucester last week.

What a first class idiot this entitled twat is.

Stopping someones benefits is a sure way of getting them to commit more crime.

Why is he in a job?

The man is a buffoon and there is a not a hope in hell of this being passed because and successfully challenged in court, he knows that he's just trying to try and out do his mate cock jockey Gove.
