I see nothing that says 'this squad will make it through the groups'. I think this is going to be the shittest World Cup for some time for us, which is saying something.

Same comments for the last World Cup and also the Qualifiers for this World Cup...He got us past both times

Do you honestly think that this squad could get us through a group that contains Uruguay and Italy? I'd be astonished if we made it through the groups.

I think there is more chance that we will finish 3rd on goal difference
level on points with 4th. there's no quality at all in some positions in that squad, fuck all balance too.

I have this weird 'Mexico 86' feeling about this tournament.

We went there with a more or less settled team, which performed at a level that can best be described as 'utter wank'. Then at the 11th hour Robson changed the team and all of a sudden it started playing, to the point where we reached the quarter finals. Where we met Argentina and the rest is history.

But Robson's first choice XI involved the talents of Mark Hateley, Butch Wilkins and the injured Bryan Robson. The team that actually got us somewhere involved Peter Reid, Trevor Steven and Peter Beardsley.

I've just got this feeling that we will be so shit with a first choice of rag first choices, and Hodgson will bin them and from somewhere we will find a team - I can imagine that Andros Townsend and Oxlade Chamberlain might produce quite an exciting attack. I would very much doubt we would get as far as the quarter finals, and probably not beyond that, but we may pull a half decent team out of a squad consisting of dross. We have, as I say, done it before.

Deluded. It has some good players in it, which isn't enough. Italy and Uruguay will both best us comfortably.
Fucking Hodgson.

What a shit squad. Really starting to piss me off with picking shit united players, surprised Ashley youngs not in it. Noble, Barry and osman would all get in my squad rather than cleverly.
the young lad at villa (delph?) is basically a cleverly upgrade as well

Honestly, Yes.

Our first 11 is a strong team. a few weak areas in certain parts of the squad, same for Italy and Uruguay no doubt. It will be tough, but also tough for the others.

Whats our first 11 tho mate?

Were bang average and the style of play is worse.

There isn't one name in that squad that gives me any belief that we can get through that group.

Go look at Italy's squad and do a player for player comparison, i'll give you a brief view
CM: England: Cleverly, Barkley, Carrick, Gerrard
Italy: Montolivo, Pirlo, De Rossi, Marchisio, Motta, Verratti etc etc

If I were asked today what I thought the World Cup Squad should be then I'd probably go with the following. It's worth noting that this doesn't mean I think all of these players are particularly good, I just think England has such a derth of talent at present that these are the best of a bad bunch:-

GK

Joe Hart
Ben Foster
Fraser Forster

DEF

Leighton Baines
Gary Cahill
Phil Jagielka
Ashley Cole
Glen Johnson
Phil Jones
Chris Smalling
Kyle Walker

MID

Michael Carrick
Steven Gerrard
Jordan Henderson
Adam Lallana
Frank Lampard
James Milner
Jack Wilshere
Andros Townsend

FOR

Wayne Rooney
Daniel Sturridge
Danny Welbeck
Andy Carroll
