Getting beat by Uzbekistan 1-0, Ben Mee has just let them in for the goal. Think we've got about 6 lads in the squad and five have started this game. TBH they don't look great, England have been well gubbed all the way through the comp. At the minute we're bottom of the group looking like we'ew losing all our games and we've not scored a goal.

Apparantly the last England U20 player to score in the finals was Jamie Carragher and he's about 62 now!

Most of the top English U-20s weren't released by their clubs - Wilshire and Gibbs at Arsenal for example. If it was full strength I think only Trippier would have been a strong bet to make the squad. Nimely is a good prospect but is only 18 so is a bit under-age for this level.

Indeed.

Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Jack Rodwell (Everton), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Junior Stanislas (West Ham), James Tomkins (West Ham) are other Premier League regulars for their clubs who weren't released.

It's not just top players though.

Don't think any of Alex Mcarthy (Reading), Chris Smalling (Fulham), Miles Addison (Derby), Ciaran Clark (Aston Villa), Joe Mattock (West Brom), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Sam Hutchinson (Chelsea), Jack Cork (Chelsea), Tom Cleverley (Man Utd), Danny Rose (Spurs), Danny Welbeck (Man Utd), Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea), Freddie Sears (West Ham), Andy Carroll (Newcastle) or Nathan Delfouneso (Aston Villa) have travelled.

So it's not really shocking this group are so poor, looking at past squads some don't even make it in professional football. Surprised Jamie Carragher played for this lot.
