You watch Grealish and then you think back to the Euro final where we couldn't keep the ball and you just wonder why Southgate didn't take him.

Southgate has an idea in his head of Jack as a selfish and unpredictable player, a roll of the dice who might deliver an odd flash of brilliance but can't be relied upon to put in a defensive shift or hold an assigned position.

Maybe that was an accurate description 10 years ago but personally I think all recent evidence is entirely contrary to that. But Southgate never seemed to get entirely comfortable with trusting him.
